Travel plenty. I just don't smoke. Can't say I look for lighters that often. And I'm not one of the "you shouldn't be able to smoke anywhere" folks. It's your body. You know the risks. If you want to accept them to enjoy a cigarette, that's you for it. I could care less.

However, I don't want the possibility of a fire on a plane.

Any moron can start a fire without a lighter.

Somehow I don't think it was caused by a butane lighter.

This is ridiculous.

As far as endangering someone on the plane. TSA has never once caught on that the key chain I have is probably the sharpest knife I own. I don't intentionally take a knife on board, but I usually don't even think about the keychain being a knife.

If you don't smoke, you will never understand.

I do understand that when I get off of a plane after an uncomfortable flight, I want a cigarette. Personally, I think this rule will just cause unstable cigarette smokers to become more crabby. And that can be a bad thing....

What happens when the terrorist brings a decent match on board?

Then you must be in favor of banning all electronics, batteries, in-flight movies, instruments and fuel.
Fires on planes are generally electrical and not intentionally started. In fact I have never heard of one that was started by a passenger and neither has my son in his 17 years as an airline mechanic. (Not including 7 years as a mechanic in the Air Force)

If the plane goes down and you manage to survive, you may just want to be able to start a fire. I have always for my entire adult life carried a knife and a means to make fire. For me it's just common sense and I resent the fact that someone would stop me from protecting myself or helping others in need. That is the reason why I haven't flown since 9/11 not because I'm afraid. I will only fly when there is no other way for me to get to where I need to be.
