Witnesses: Jury Wrongly Convicted Peterson
REDWOOD CITY, Calif. In tearful testimony, Scott Peterson's (search) family and friends pleaded with jurors to spare his life, contending that he was mistakenly convicted of killing his pregnant wife, Laci.
Defense witnesses have already testified that Peterson sang to seniors on Sundays, distributed food and clothes in Tijuana and that he was a good friend and loving son.
On the fifth day of the trial's penalty phase, Peterson's relatives questioned the jury's verdict.
"I don't believe he's guilty," said his uncle, John Lathamke to see him die. It would tear our family apart."
But jurors showed no expression, some even looking away or toward the ground as Latham spoke.
Testimony in the seven-month-old trial's penalty phase was set to continue Tuesday and run into the next day before closing arguments. Jurors were expected to begin deliberating Thursday whether to sentence Peterson to life without parole or the death penalty.
Peterson was convicted Nov. 12 of one count of first-degree murder in the death of his pregnant wife, Laci, and one count of second-degree murder for the killing of her fetus.
Prosecutors say he smothered or strangled Laci Peterson (search) in their Modesto home on or around Christmas Eve 2002, then dumped her body into San Francisco Bay. The remains of the victims were discovered about four months later a few miles from where Peterson claims to have been fishing alone the day his wife vanished.

She was completely discredited. But keep saying it.
You made a declartive statement of fact, that 400 people had been removed from Death Row in the last five years.
So far, you've named two.
Will you answer the question I posed to you about the other guy being exonerated after being found guilty because of lots of the same types of circumstantial evidence? Or can you?
I feel for the 100 people quoted above that were exonerated. If it was left up to you those people wouldnt have had a chance to be exonerated.
And the judge was standing right there; if there was anything wrong with that, I think HE would have said something about it, don't you?
I don't care when she died; she WAS questioned by both the defense and the proscecution and her "testimony," as it would be, was NOT credibile.
The host jumped on him and said....WHAT DAY.....he said the day Laci disappeared.
We all know very well WHAT DAY......
There is speculation that he strangled her in bed and she tried to scrape his hands from her throat.
G-D rest Laci's soul and may Scott rot in hell.
Back that up. Link ANY aricle that says that.
Bet my life, if this case "Is" successfully appealed, her testimony will NOT be allowed in the next trial...
You sure are devoid of enough facts that you should think seriously about betting your life. I haven't seen one word you've posted so far that's the truth.
And, again, there are NO issues in this case that are JUDICIAL ERRORS, which is what it takes to overturn a case.
can you read? the article mentions 100, and that article was back in 2002...Does it matter? 1 or 400 it STILL proves that innocent people are found guilty from circumstantial evidence! Will you let your hatred for Peterson get in the way of not acknowledging the truth that innocent people are in prison?? Acknowledging that fact Howlin will in no way say that you think Peterson is innocent. Must I say again, I dont think he is innocent(so we agree on that) I do NOT think he received a fair trial.
One more question. If it was you, wouldnt you want all evidence from both sides to be weighed by the jury? Or just the bits that make you look guilty? We all know the answer to that, although im sure you wont answer.
As I said, with every post, you prove to everybody just how misinformed and unknowledgeable you are.
Im working on my PHD in Political Science and then going on to law school.
God help us all.
wrong--It doesnt have to be only judicial errors howlin. Look at other cases where the suspect has been exonerated. The Jury, witnesses, and other things have been cause for a new trial.
I am not here to discuss OTHER cases; we're trying to inform you of the facts of THIS case, which you apparently are not familiar with.
You said: First, I don't think anyone framed Peterson. It looks to me like he was guilty. But, there is not enough evidence to give him the death penalty.
I don't think this follows. Death penalty consideration is an entirely separate matter. Do the aggravating factors, as found by the jury, outweigh the mitigating factors? That is what the jury is to consider. Pre-meditation, planning, flight, lack of concern for the feelings of the parents of Lacy as her body rots in the water, etc. versus reading to some senior citizens. I could give him the death penalty, already having been convinced, beyond a reasonable doubt, as to his guilt.
yes God help those 100 people exonerated, cause if it was left up to you, they would still be innocent and in prison.
Please quote one thing I have said that was totally wrong. You attack like liberals do without providing a quote or link. When showing where im wrong--Quote something from a LAW book, proving im wrong. Bet ya cant. Prove it
ROTFLOL!
Had to tend to my auction... I won!
Now I am reading the exchanges..lol...
And don't forget those wonderful killers who do get away with murder or who are put onto the streets after a lenient sentence...only to kill again.
Freepmail.
I hear everybody laughing now---you cant answer the question thats why you refuse. You know your caught if you answer it honestly....LOL
Oh I agree that some get away with murder, but isnt it wrong for an innocent person to die??
Humorous reading, to be sure. Although I haven't heard the "Scott was framed by space aliens" theory promoted as "reasonable doubt" yet.
