A high rise in the Chicago Loop at 135 S. LaSalle has at least one floor on fire. Live shots show a raging fire through the windows.
This is the LaSalle Bank Building. Began just after 1830h.

Fire is now moving to the right, although it looks like an office was skipped. This is all about the fire ratings of the walls and ceilings. No water on the fire that I can see.
This building has been studied by CFD and an attack has been pre-planned. Come on CFD!!
Thanks for the ping. Deja vu feeling
Why so much hype over this fire? It seems limited to a single floor and perhaps 1 or 2 offices.
Ironically, there is a meeting this Friday to discuss the new, proposed fire, sprinkler ordinances for the City of Chicago.
Another window, this time to the right of the original five has now gushed outward with flames and thick black smoke...
More CFD vehicles are now showing up, special care teams for the fire fighters and any victims. "Rehab" and nutrition for the fire fighters, there are 100-150 CFD responding to this 5-11 alarm fire, the largest alarm the CFD can call, according to WLS-TV.
CFD fire fighter brought out with oxygen mask to his face, overcome with smoke...

The ugly sculpture in the foreground ;-) is the Picasso on the Plaza.
I was there the day they unveiled that thing back in the late 60's.
I was a little kid and it was pretty perplexing to see the cover come off and be told I was looking at a duck.
Any high-rise fire is going to get attention, first because of controversy over the ability to fight such fires, and second because of 9/11. This would have been big news even without fears of terrorism.
They still not have been able to put any water on the fire.
a 511 is not nothing and a dozen ambulances
As of now, still no water has been put on fire according to CBS2.
you tell em' SB
Well, it's in a major metropolitan American city.
It is continuing to spread, on a single floor.
Chicago had a high rise fire just over a year ago, major SNAFU with the Fire Dept and poor communications and some 6 or 9 people wound up dying because they were told to stay put..

They just confirmed no water on the fire yet...still in staging phase.
one of the TM'rs lives down there
It's a baboon, not a duck. It could be anything.
Wow!...
Watching it right now.
Thanks for the link (and the Internet)
Fire Dept update says 2 firefighters have been transported out in "red condition" all other people who've been transported have been in "yellow condition"
With a screen name like yours, you should be pretty versed on the newsworthiness of fires. ;-)
2 Firefighters have red condition. live news conference on all local channels
Does that mean search and rescue are preventing an attack on the fire?
Just got home...I run the marathon (sponsored by ABN AMRO LaSalle) every year....hope none of the injured are seriously hurt.
