Earth's defences may need to be boosted against risk of potentially deadly microbes returning on spaceprobes.

This is not a fresh idea, but it is still good. But, it is also likely that earth and Mars have been trading spit all along, so both are pretty much already exposed.

Well, there go my vacation plans...I never did like Mars, anyway. No beaches, all that red, no truck stops, and the virus shots are pure hell.

We were at pains to decontaminate the spacecraft that returned from the moon. Of course, we couldn't do it until they splashed down in the ocean, instantly contaminating the whole world's water supply. Someday we may learn that these unseen space microbes invade the unprotected brain and damage it so much that the victim becomes a liberal.
