Gregoire Tells Democrats to Recount Whole State -- or None
KOMO-TV ^ | 2 December 2004

Posted on 12/02/2004 12:19:47 PM PST by Publius

Christine Gregoire is asking her Democratic Party to request a recount all the votes in Washington or don't count at all.

Gregoire says she knows it would be cheaper for the party to request a partial recount in a few counties that would likely help her overcome Dino Rossi's 42-vote lead.

But she says her goal is to count all the votes in the state to settle the governor's race.

The party has until 5 p.m. Friday to request the recount. Democrats have been raising money for the count that would cost about $700,000.

The John Kerry campaign donated $250,000 toward the Washington recount.

She knows if she asks for a partial recount in selected areas, and somehow pulls out a win, she's pretty well screwed politically...

But she can't win the election based solely on the results of a partial recount. It could only trigger a state-wide recount per Washington state law.

She would still be screwed, and viewed srcitly as the Governor of Seattle... Her legitimacy would be in question, and justifiably so.

The point being missed is that she's the candidate..it's HER decision...as to what to ask for in the recount..

The citizens of Florida should send Washington State a GIANT thank you card.

Wow, a principled stand by a Democrat.

That's one in a row.

Gregoire is going back into court to gain access to more spoiled ballots. Perkins-Coie is petitioning this afternoon. Probably with the same judge who bent over backwards for them last week.

All county GOP party's will be needing 25 or so volunteers that will be able to observe for a 12 hour shift. Can you imagine the mistakes that will occur because of fatigue?

There is also the issue of the 400 votes Kings County produced by illegally releasing information regarding unsigned provisional ballots. Because this was denied to Republicans in Yakima County, the 400 votes are not kosher under Gore v. Bush. Rossi dropped his federal case once he had been certified as the winner, since the matter became moot. If another recount were to put Gregoire ahead, the 400 vote issue would be revived.

"There already was one recount... but since the Democrats did not like the result of that recount, they want another recount. They want to keep counting the votes over and over until they come out ahead... and then once they're even a single vote ahead, it is time to cease counting and to "move on" for the "good of the state."

You've got it!

Except that was the result OF the recount. They want ANOTHER recount. By hand. And you know how "accurate" that's going to be when the margin is so tiny.

I think that's the idea, Sandy. He can't give her enough for a statewide recount. She must fall short by Friday, so she is "left with no other reasonable option" but to insist on a partial count. In other words, she's gonna go through with her diabolic scheme, and blame it on the poverty of the D party.

Wow, a principled stand by a Democrat.

Plus it is smart. A long contested recount could destroy any future political carreer just as Algore's carreer was destroyed. As close as this election is, she could come back next time and run again for governor.

Good afternoon.

I wonder if his campaign ever paid the staffers in Florida.

We had a statewide recount already. They are trying to get a hand-count, which is open to mischief & is much less accurate than the machine count that was already done.
