PAPUA (muslims): PRIEST KILLED, 22 CHURCHES CLOSE (50,000 run to the mountains)

AUSTRALIA (ANS) -- There are fears that Kopassus, the Indonesian Special Forces, are fomenting unrest in Papua that would then appear to justify a massacre of the indigenous Papuans. Papuan human rights activist John Rumbiak says that Papua is a 'time bomb waiting to go off'. He says there are now more than a million Indonesians (nearly all Javanese Muslims) in Papua, closing the demographic gap on the 1.5 million largely Christian national Papuans. Rumbiak also said that 25,000 Indonesian troops had entered Papua since 2000. Furthermore, peace is threatened by the Laskar Jihad and the militias set up by the infamous militia leader, Eurico Guterres, who created terror in East Timor.

The President of the Fellowship of Baptist Churches in Papua, Pastor Socrates Sofyan Yoman, told ABC Radio Australia (8 Nov), that on 14 September, Kopassus killed a clergyman, the Reverend Eleesa Tabuni, in Mulia. Then troops in a helicopter fired on Papuans who were gathering food in a garden, killing two of them. 'Twenty-two churches empty now,' says Yoman. 'No people. People [estimated at 50,000 – Rumbiak] run to the mountains. Now they need food, yeah? Now, they need food.'

INDONESIA: Thousands displaced after Papua raids

In Indonesia, at least three people are dead, and as many as 20,000 may have been displaced, after raids in Puncak Jaya district in Papua province. Thousands of Papuans who fled the raids, allegedly by Kopassus Special Forces, are sheltering in the Highlands and badly in need of food. It's believed at least two people died when villagers were fired on from a helicopter.

Presenter/Interviewer: Kathy Leverett Speakers: Pastor Socrates Sofyan Yoman, President of the Fellowship of Baptist Churches in Papua

LEVERETT: Reports are only now filtering in, of a raid carried out on October the 17th, in pursuit of members of the Free Papua Movement.

Pastor Socrates Sofyan Yoman, President of the Fellowship of Baptist Churches in Papua, has just returned from a visit to the town of Mulia.

He says that on the 14th September, the military killed a clergyman there, the Reverend Eleesa Tabuni.

YOMAN: The Special Forces shoot him, and is killing him. And I have meeting with the military commander, Kopassus commander, I meet them. And then I make contact with the local people, and I confirm with them.

LEVERETT: Shortly afterwards, the Pastor says, troops in a helicopter fired on Papuans who were gathering food in a garden, killing two of them.

The villagers fled and, he says, are now starving, because the military destroyed their crops.

YOMAN: 22 churches empty now. No people. People run to the mountains. Now they need food, yeah? Now, they need food.

LEVERETT: The human rights organisation, Elsham, says the operation was carried out in revenge for the killing in September of a group of road workers.

According to Elsham, local church members refused to hand over a witness to the execution of the clergyman.

Members of the Papuan parliament say they'll set up an investigation into the raids, and the move has been backed by Indonesia's President, Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono.

Observers say Kopassus Special Forces may be trying to pressure the President into giving up his plan for special autonomy for Papua.

They say the region provides the military with considerable income, from sources such as the illegal logging of timber.

Indonesia has been "settling" non-muslim islands for decades, and Papua is the big prize.

It's ethnic cleansing in slow motion.

Don't think for one minute the Papuans are going to buy this crap.

They know how to shrink heads.

They may not be very pretty people, but they are SMART.

When the English tried to make them slaves, they shrunk a few heads, and off the English went.

They have a state of the art telecom system, and a DIRECT DEMOCRACY, more direct than the US or even France.

Corner them, and you will see wonderful revenge.

It seems to me that one of the best ways we could fight terror would be to properly arm the Papuans. I doubt any western troups are needed, just the right armaments.

Didn't you watch the war in the Balkans? It is our practice, when Christians and Muslims are in direct conflict, to arm and do the bombing for the "religion of peace." We certainly don't help those who worship the Prince of Peace.

Pay more attention next time.

We certainly agree that Islam is satanic.

No arguments there -- I always wonder about the 666 bit in REvelations -- it talks about the Dragon and the false Prophet. Could that false prophet be Mad Mo? And the mooslimes seem to revere the number 786, couldn't St. John have gotten the number slightly wrong??

Rev 6:3 And when he had opened the second seal, I heard the second beast say, Come and see.

Rev 6:4 And there went out another horse [that was] red: and [power] was given to him that sat thereon to take peace from the earth, and that they should kill one another: and there was given unto him a great sword.

The Religion of Peace rides a red horse.

I was in the Balkans during that war. The Orthodox there were astonished that we were attacking Christians on behalf of Mohammadens. If I were a Papuan I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for help from us. After all, the President reminds us that Islam is the Religion of Peace, doesn't he?
