Should The F-22 be cancelled?

Yes. This type of aircraft has no place in the modern battlefield and Foreseeable conflicts. The money could be put into more usefull sistems (each unit cost about $235 million for 239 planes) Whats your opinion?

What am I hearing? Only that you can only reduce the requirements so far before what you have is a worthless hunk of metal, which is where they are right now. The aircraft cannot perform the missions it was supposed to be built for, and carry enough gas to get there and back. Physics are physics, and not to be F#$%ED with.

Brain dead crack babies have a better chance at life today than the F-35.

When it comes to high-dollar procurement, you are surely correct on that. These things aquire a momentum all their own.

We've got systems on the P-3 which are virtually USELESS in real-world ops, and we've said so, to everyone with an ear. We still press on trying to "make 'em work", just to justify the money spent.

Fine new technology.

J-UCAV is a great step in unmanned systems. Phantom Works at Boeing (in IDS) is the technology lead.

It will be best used as a strike platform, not a fighter. It will be sent on missions to destroy high-value targets that are heavily defended. . .thereby saving crews for more fluid situations and less tricky targets.

Programmable and with a "smart" ability to operate independently make this a very versatile system. It may also be programmed in flight. . .another great leap.

Like the system but do not see for generations to come any threat to manned systems.

As I've said before, until you can field an unmanned tank that is able to operate easily in a 2-D, 1-G, 20 knot ground environment, there is not much to worry about when it comes to fielding a unmanned aircraft operating in a 3-D, multi-G, hyper-sonic, multi-threat environment.

Learn to crawl first, then run.

Ah, but you get to hold out for your smooth little 737 comin down the line. Right now, the F-35 is a jobs program and nothing more. The day will come, the announcement will be made, and we can get on with that little Hornet killer I told you about a few months ago. (don't mention on the forum)

No mention in the article on cost. Won't be assessed till 2007, which means, if it follows SOP, it won't be ready till 2020.

Sadly, that 737 isn't scheduled to hit the fleet before 2015, at the soonest. I retire that year.

I might get qual'd on it, though, if I do another tour at VP-30.

I'm in VP-10 here until 2007. Might wind up teaching at "A" school after that. I'm up for Chief in January. Wish me luck.

The question is will I survive, dude.

We just agreed to 5 years of no raises. My butt still hurts; they gave us no lube before the assault began. But yeah, Delta is good to go. I worked the past two days and it was sweet watching my big-baby handle the weather. I never get sick of watching that thing notice what is coming, and before I can grab yoke, it says "Don't worry big guy, I got this, have another cookie and relax."

Engines spool down, a little trim; maybe a little opposing rudder to roll, and WHAT turbulence? I didn't feel a thing.

What I'd love to see a high resolution quality photo of is one of the vast mother ships--the things 3 foot ball fields in diameter and larger--what some a mile in diameter or more.

Yup. . .procurement is costly in terms of time and money.

It ain't easy bidding on an existing platform, let alone a new one.

Had the great fortune to attend for a week a class presented at Boeing's Leadership Center. Live in a 5-star dorm on campus and work from 0700-2000. Lots of hours but worth it.

Learned a lot about the business of Boeing.

I'm still on Atlanta to London. I don't get to play with the 'stews' baby, If I were to suggest calling them anything but their names, I'd be up for a lawsuit. I had a passenger joke with me the other day that he used to like the aisle seat, but our 'stews' have gotten so fat, he gets beat to death from them walking back and forth with their carts.

For every honey working 1st class and bringing me coffee, their are 3 wide bodies wearing out shoulders in coach and biz.
