Should The F-22 be cancelled?
26-nov,2004 | Me

Yes. This type of aircraft has no place in the modern battlefield and Foreseeable conflicts. The money could be put into more usefull sistems (each unit cost about $235 million for 239 planes) Whats your opinion?

We own the skies over Iraq. Winning ground wars depend on us owning the air space now and in the future.

True enough. I'm sure if the F-22 was active already we would have used it. But we were dealing with a not so modern air force and air defense system. China on the other hand is a different story. High technology warfare generally works better against a high technology adversary. China has a decent modern air force (untested) so it would be interesting to see how the match up would play out. Here's to hoping we don't have to find out.

Obviously. :)

A friend was involved with the original stealth technology research code named "have blue". You think he said a word to anybody? Hell no!!!!

Would tend to foster the opposite inclinations from the NY SLIMES in me.

But, hey, even the Slimes occasionally has to face reality.

Cncell the F-22? What on earth for? Its the most advanced warplane in the world today- why should the US army loose his superiority? The F-22 is a stealth warplane- meaning that his signature on the radar is tiny or even non! Why to cancell it? To let potential enemy countries to think that the US superiority is minor? The JFS F-35 that will enter service betwin 2012-2015 is suposed to be even more advanced than the F-22, so should we cancell it too? If you wanted to save the cost of the F-22 you could share the development with other military-technological countries such as Israel, UK, Sweden and Australia. The F-35 is a development of other countries too- meaning that his cost for the US government will be lower that it would be without sharing the plane's development. Not only that the US army shouldnt cancell the F-22, but also it should increase its numbers!

If the F22 was canceled, you can kiss air superiority good bye. Right now our weapons are 30 years plus and aging. The Russians and French are developing systems which are on the heals of the F-22.

To be frank, the F-22 should have been deployed a long time ago. The contract was won when I was in high school and they are just now rolling them out.

Very bad development time.. but if we wait any longer, we will be in serious trouble. Dont believe me? check out what the indian air force did to our guys in war games.

Thanks for the evaluation.

It appears that pilots are pro F-22 here.

we have to own the skies now and in the future. The F-22 does this and the hell with the cost lets do it and keep owning the air.

Suffering does have that benefit, doesn't it.

Tuition can be astronomically costly. But I am thankful for the lessons. I sure don't want to repeat the fiery furnace schooling, though!

Most people with a modicum of aviation knowledge are pro-F-22. There are only two primary people here against it...a newbie with no cred whatsoever in the field; and a crop-circle dancer with tinfoil dandruff.

Think about it.

I'm probably more aware of Chinese university life than you have--given that I taught and lived at a Chinese university for years.

They give their best and brightest a plenty high quality education. Many here who do return as well as professors there who were trained here.

And certainly the latest technology tools from wherever they think the best are available from.

And, 0.05% of 1.2 billion is still a lot of people!

Today (11/26) is the 13th anniversary of my bone marrow transplant. So I've come through by the grace of God and every day (even the bad ones) are a blessing and a gift.

I think you distort the Scripture and it's implications wholesale.

Scripture also says watch and be ready and chides people who can predict the weather but be oblivious to signs of the end.

That Scripture you cited says we can't know the day or hour. In context, He seemed to indicate we should be able to know the season--whatever that might mean.

I could accept that it could fill a needed slot that no one is allowing anything better to fill.

As I said above, fine--field a few wings of such.

But let us not pretend that it's the latest--even the latest already fielded.

I disagree, the military is on tight budget for a decade or more because of the entitlement programs (Medicare/social security). There are more cost effective ways to achieve air dominance than the F-22. We could use the money saved on more urgent defense systems.

I accept your apology and forgive you.

Thick or thin skinned has nothing necessarily to do with calling a spade a spade.

I get WEARY of smug . . . . arrogance pretending to be loftier than thou wisdom and omnicience. I don't know that you necessarily fall in that category or not. But you certainly brushed up sufficiently against buttons which are geared against such mentalities hereon.

Strange view points are not automatically trash.

Ignorance does not automatically equal a 'more knowledgeable than thou' position to throw lofty pontifications from as though from Mt Sinai.

I have learned over the years that my massive amounts of very diverse readings and discussions face to face somehow seem to be more than the average person manages. And, I've learned to respect what The Lord has shown me through such diversities of sources.

I know I see through a glass very darkly and most of my puzzle pieces are still on vast shelves waiting to see what REALLY FALLS OFF REALLY CONFIRMED IN VIVID OBJECTIVE TANGIBLE DETAIL.

However, I also have SOME guesstimates which I have more confidence in than others.

The Scripture's a great one. I don't advocate fear but confidence in Jesus AND WALKING CLOSE TO HIM HEARING HIS VOICE.

I'm hopeful of getting back to Taiwan--probably not that long before China invades. Still, my heart is to go back. Fear is not driving me, a heart and love for loving Chinese students into The Kingdom is.
