LOS ANGELES - For relatives and friends of U.S. troops serving in Iraq, "The Ellen DeGeneres Show" was the place to be. Studio audience members, all with a military connection, were surprised with the gift of a free cruise at a taping Tuesday. The episode of the syndicated talk show, with guest Tom Hanks, aired Wednesday.
A total of 250 seven-day cruises for four, along with taxes and fees, were given in appreciation of troops deployed from three California bases: Marine Corps Air Station Miramar, Camp Pendleton and Fort Irwin.
Celebrity Cruises is providing the vacations, available at any time to allow for troops overseas to take part on their return, according to a spokeswoman for the show.
DeGeneres also joined with the USO to send more than 5,000 care packages to the audience's relatives and friends in Iraq. The episode will be repeated on Thanksgiving on the Armed Forces Network.
Everybody knew she was a lesbian long before she "came out". She get's preferential treatment soley because of her sexual habits.
If you think she is talented then why have all of her shows failed? How many entertainers get as many second chances as she has?
"I always thought she was funny."
Yes me too, I like her. That whole lesbian thing got out of control, but her daily show is ok, maybe one of the best things on, but I don't watch hardly any daytime TV.
This was a good thing to do, and it's good she did it. Maybe Ellen is smart enough to know the Islamofacists don't look too kindly on lesbians, or other Americans, unlike so many in Hollywood.
No one elses thinks so (except of course the lebian community). That's why all her shows have been dismal failures.
You know, Ghost, it's embarrassing to watch a fellow Catholic make a total ass of himself on a secular thread.
Ellen's a genuinely funny comedian. Her bits are clean, and she's not in-your-face about her orientation.
You hate gay people, don't you? Come on, you can admit the obvious.
/Salute to her, I wish there were more celebs like her.
No need to get nasty. Pot shots don't make your point more convincingly.
She is giving nothing, just taking the credit for Celebrity Cruise Lines' generous donation.
Hillary CLinton claims to be an "Evangelical Christian" and "conservative".
Hillary Clinton has a cookie recipe in the Clinton LIEbrary.
Ellen "Degenerate" gives away cruises to members of the military.
The left has made it clear that they will fake anything to full the public and make Blue turn to Purple and make Purple turn to Red in order to win the White House in 2008.
If Degenerate is a conservative at heart, then I am wrong (I doubt it). I am not wrong about Hillary.
Let's be clear here. You will see the left pull the biggest fake out in American history as they convince many gullible fools to buy into the charade that they are a horse of a different color now, all in order to win the White House in 2008.
So what? Over 200 servicemen and their families get free cruises. But I suppose you think that it would be better that they didn't get them rather than risk good press for DeGeneres?
" No one elses thinks so (except of course the lebian community)."
Well, judging from this thread, many Freepers also think she's funny, myself included.

Oh yeh, G.G? Anyone want to speak up.
Ellen's an intelligent, very funny, down to earth girl. And........she was a house painter for a time. :-)
Anyone want to chime in here, please?
Yep. She's funny. And, her act is clean. Can't say that about many comedians today.
"Anyone want to chime in here, please?"
I like her. She's certainly not some left wing nut, although I would imagine she probably voted for Kerry, and the stuff I've seen of her was pretty funny. Personally I don't give a damn about her sexual orientation. If I hated gays and lesbians I'd have to start hating my brother-in-law and two of my best friends. No thanks.
She get's preferential treatment soley because of her sexual habits.
If you think she is talented then why have all of her shows failed?
First, I thought the whole lesbian push she did was both wrong, and a terrible flop for her.
But outside of that disastrious and wrong-headed move on her part, she was, and is, a very funny comic, especially much of her stand up comedy> It is much, much more mild than 90% of the other stand-up comics these days...who can't seem to tell a joke that is not about bodily functions or raw sexual comments and swearing. She also has stayed out of politics as far as I can tell.
Well said!
Guess we are all lesbians on this thread as most of us think she's pretty darn funny.
I always thought she was hilarious! Her stand-up was over the top. This was a wonderful thing for her to do, and I don't believe she has any strings attached, just straight up generosity.
Happy Thanksgiving, Ellen, and God Bless.
