United Church of Christ: "...possession of a nuclear weapon is the best deterrent to a pre-emptive strike by the United States"
November 22, 2004 - Justice and Witness Ministries of the United Church of Christ issued an action alert today criticizing the United States, and particularly Colin Powell, for releasing information "alleging Iran of secret weapons facilities". The alert suggests that Powell and an exiled Iranian resistance group, which is recognized by the State Department as a terrorist organization, conspired in releasing the information simultaneously. The alert goes further and states "In the new post-Iraq war world where possession of a nuclear weapon is the best deterrent to a pre-emptive strike by the United States, Iran's ongoing uranium enrichment program, ostensibly for power plants, is a tremendous concern." The backhanded concern for Iran's nuclear capabilities also appears to legitimize the use of nuclear weapons as a deterrent against the United States. In addition to the vulgar suggestion, many of the claims made in the announcement are either stated out of context or are all together false.

("That's a joke, son!") (that's another joke from an old Saturday morning cartoon.)
They are a semi-mainstream Protestant denomination that has gotten more and more leftist in the past 25-30 years or so, to the point that they are almost indistinguishable from the Unitarian-Universalists, who are the proverbial leftist/socialist non-church.
Aren't these the ultra-liberal Congregationalists?
My friend, weather or not these are the "end times" or not humanity does have a future and it's going too be GREAT.
But I know what you mean some people seem to concentrate on the negative.
Yeah? What if we got hit and just sat there dumbfounded? I think Bush would respond but I am not altogether sure that individuals from the McGovern-Carter-Kerry wing of the American Communist Democrat Party would do the same.
Typically yes - but the members are far more moderate than the leadership of the church which is extreme left wing.
Idiots who lack moral clarity.
You may be wrong you may be right, but I tell you truly the way of the cross is better than ANY form of godless, amoral atheism.
cheese moose.
It is just me, or do you feel like sometimes you are the only one in the world (besides myself) that wants humanity to have a future?
My sentiments exactly.
I once had a hugh fantail goldfish named Hugh. I was just a kid then and didn't know it meant enormous. How insightful of me.
I do, but the threat from Iran wont be solved by a pre-emptive strike.
So true!
Sure, why not. I really don't know much of anything about the UCC. I do wonder what the founders of this denomination would think of them today...nothing good I suspect.
bump
Organized religion - what a blessing to mankind!
lol
The church of Christ has nothing to do with the United Church of Christ. The church of Christ is usually going to be politically conservative, to the point that walking into one before the election you might even hear a prayer for Bush to be relected.
The United Church of Christ is a bunch of hard leftists that simply do not take any part of the bible seriously and probably would call on John Kerry to repent of his right wing extremism.
No, they don't. Carriers are always escorted by guided-missile cruisers and destroyers that have the most powerful radars and the most sophisticated weapons systems on the planet. No missile is going to hit a carrier or any other part of a battlegroup.
Sounds like another liberal church speaks ignorance again.
A nuke doesn't have to hit the ship to cause a problem.
No, it's a different denomination. UCC is not Mormon.
