SHOCK: Church: Iran Nukes "the best" deterrent to U.S.

United Church of Christ: "...possession of a nuclear weapon is the best deterrent to a pre-emptive strike by the United States"

November 22, 2004 - Justice and Witness Ministries of the United Church of Christ issued an action alert today criticizing the United States, and particularly Colin Powell, for releasing information "alleging Iran of secret weapons facilities". The alert suggests that Powell and an exiled Iranian resistance group, which is recognized by the State Department as a terrorist organization, conspired in releasing the information simultaneously. The alert goes further and states "In the new post-Iraq war world where possession of a nuclear weapon is the best deterrent to a pre-emptive strike by the United States, Iran's ongoing uranium enrichment program, ostensibly for power plants, is a tremendous concern." The backhanded concern for Iran's nuclear capabilities also appears to legitimize the use of nuclear weapons as a deterrent against the United States. In addition to the vulgar suggestion, many of the claims made in the announcement are either stated out of context or are all together false.

Jesus is not coming back. How many more people must die before you realise that ?

I'm a geddin real sick of hearing about people hoping for a cataclysmic world event to happen before their saviour returns and everything turns out just dandy. Self-fulfilling prophecies like that are very dangerous. We create the footprints in the sands of time. God gives us the beautiful beach and the waves.

The bible does tell us that Jesus is coming back, only the father knows when and how.
You can be assured, JESUS WILL COME BACK.

I'll bet you US$100,000 that the carpenter from Nazareth doesn't appear in the next month.

Want to take me on ?

Put your money where your mouth is. And add a hundred thousand to my stake for each month following that. i.e Six months time I risk $600,000 - You Risk $100,000. You can have a daily futures contract if you like, starting now if the $100,000 is too much for you to bear. I'm sure you could risk $10 a day for your belief in the return of the carpenter from Nazareth couldn't you.

Truth stings but it is worth the bite.

The time for illusions is at an end.

"HUGH is a FreeRepublic running gag misspelling of HUGE. If you did it by accident, no biggie, but it is often done deliberately to indicate amusement or to mock."

I propose to refrain from deliberate misspellings due to the fact that there are far too many on this forum who have no idea whether they are spelling correctly or not.

"They dont have the missile technology to deliver them."

Better to deal with the issue now than in 3-5 years when they could have a missle system capable of hitting CONUS.(few million barrels of oil to China is all it takes)

And they have the missle capablity now to reach anywhere in the Persian Gulf and take out a carrier battlegroup.

The threat is valid.

Agreed. It's a series problem. :-)

OK, tell me again . . .

Why should we care what anyone associated with the United Church of Christ thinks?

Jesus is GOD in the FLESH ( John chapter 1 verse 4, 14 ): 1. In the beginning was the word, and the word was with GOD, and the word was GOD. 2 The same was in the beginning with GOD. 3. All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made. 4 In him was life; and the life was the light of men. 14. And the word was made flesh , and dwelt among us, and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the father, full of grace and truth. ) ( 1 John chapter 1 verse 22,23 22. Who is a lier but he that denieth that Jesus is the Christ ? He is antichrist , that denieth the father and the son. 23. Whosoever denieth the son, the same hath not the father; ( but ) he that acknowledgeth the son hath the father also. 1 John chapter 4 verses 1 to 3: 1. Beloved , believe not every spirit , but, try the spirits whether they are of GOD: because many false prophets are gone out into this world. 2. Hereby know ye the spirit of GOD: Every spirit that confesseth that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is of GOD: 3. And every spirit that confesseth not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is not of GOD: and this is that spirit of the antichrist , whereof ye have heard that it should come ; and even now already is it in the world.Do you confess ? or believe that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh ? and has already risen ? and WILL COME BACK ONEDAY ? JESUS CHRIST IS REAL ! and he is coming back. Why should I make a bet on it ? That is a foolish this to do. Jesus himself told us, that no one knew the hour or the day his return will come, but, the SIGNS OF THE TIMES.
Read Luke chapter 17 verse 20 to 37 Mark chapter 13 verse 1 to 37 Matthew chapter 24 verse 36 to 51,,, that description sound like todays world. Israel is the time clock to look at of world history.
All the prophecy's of the bible has come true. Jesus said to the Pharisees, " that a unbelieving people look for signs " The bible it's self even tells us there will be those who will scoff and scorn at people looking for his returning. It's a foolish thing to make a bet on Jesus return, besides, I don't have much money, like someone once said " if you don't have much, you don't have much to lose " No one knows the hour or day of his coming even Jesus told us, that there will be false prophet who will say " Jesus is here, or Jesus is here on the mountain " Jesus was MORE THAN JUST A CAPENTER from Nazareth, he was GOD HIMSELF IN THE FLESH.

Sometimes the spell check does not work. and even when I try to use the ( ENTER KEY ) to make sure the paragraph correct, that sometimes (most of the time ) does not work.
I am sorry if I misspelled a word incorrectly, I meant HUGE not HUGH,, sorry about my blunders.
Anyway, other than Russia, any other country that tries to strike us with one or two nukes, will most likely be wiped out.
At least one thing, even though, Russia was our great adversary, at least they had sensible heads over there, the mullahs in Iran are crazy.

They certanly do have missiles with that range, but they dont have the tracking systems need to take out a carrier battle group.Plus, a pre-emptive attack will only delay the program since the scientist, data, archives will survive.

Don't take it so seriously. 99% of the time you see "hugh" and "series" used here it's done on purpose. There is huge (hugh) difference between that kind of good natured joshing around and the type of chiding and admonishment the spelling police use.

Some of the best FR cliches come from mispellings and fouled grammer, example: stuned beeber.

"but they dont have the tracking systems need to take out a carrier battle group"

But Russia and China do and Iran has the capital to corrupt. I sense you have no problem with radical religious fundamentalist Mullahs having access to nuclear missles?

I thank you for the encouragment,Well, we all make mistakes, I would understand it, if someone chided me on my spelling if I worked for a news paper or book publisher, but, geeezzzeeee .
I was not even aware of the joshing around with that word.
The bible says " GOD uses the simple things to confound the wize "
I was chided a few weeks ago by someone on my spelling and not breaking up my sentences.
I just wrote back to them " GOD uses the simple things to confound the wize " " God resists the proud, but gives grace to the humble " GOD reveals his secrets and mysterys to the humble and the simple.

No - not related to Mormons at all... it's a protestant denomination.

You know I pretty much agree. I'm a photographer (as a hobby) and I am consiantly amazed at how many people wander through life with their eyes closed not seeing what a magical wonderful world we've been given to live in.

My point in post what I did was this attitidue of certain parts of the church (if real members of the church they are) of thinking like of you are an evangelical-fundamentalist (or whatever name they use) you are a slack jawed mouth breathing moron who looks at a family reunion as a get place to meet chicks.
