All Things Considered, November 21, 2004 · Although space exploration is one of President Bush's top priorities, his plan to send humans to the moon and Mars is being criticized by the American Physical Society, which represents 43,000 physicists. NPR's David Kestenbaum reports that the scientists are concerned that the expensive program announced by the president in January will be detrimental to ongoing scientific programs and projects.

LOL These same people would be denouncing him for not wanting to expand the horizons of human exploration if he rejected this same program.

What they're really worried about is that it will be determinetal to their programs and projects.

Anybody with half a brain can figure out that the push into space will generate a huge amount of scientific opportunities and needs. These folks are just scared they won't get as big a piece of the pie as they get now.

This is stupid.

Yes, let's quell all future exploration so we can focus on stem cells and Hydrogen cars. Not all of them at the same time, just the last two. Only them.

I think it's a waste of money to sail to the end of the world; we have the Plague to deal with after all......

Idiots....

Mighty audacious of you to call folks, who operate several levels of research and education above the normal plane, idiots. Mighty arrogant too.

If Bush diverts money from the shuttle program we'll never find out critical info needed to advance... like if a monkey can hump a football in outer space. Or studying the effect of worm farts on soil in a low-G environment.

In other words, they would rather send ants in orbit than humans to Mars. It's good to know that the scientists of today have such an ispired vision. Surely these are people more interested in expanding the depth of human knowledge than receiving a steady stream of government grants, right..?

You're right in a way. They're just short-sighted fools. "Idiot" means they're mentally underdeveloped.

Translation: They don't want anything to cut into their precious grants.

Frankly, I think a group of people who have no idea what they're doing would want to stay as far below the radar as possible: Hawking Changes His Mind on the Nature of Black Holes

I think its time the Rocket Scientists at NASA speak up and put their "fellow" scientists in their place.

...will be detrimental to ongoing scientific programs and projects.

Sounds as if a large portion of the 43,000 "Physicists" are sucking on the taxpayer's teat. May be time to cut them off and go on to useful things.

Bush should agree with them, cancel the program, and cancel funding for the associated astrophysics and the like. He should do that for about a year and then ask again what they think.

Of course if the same exact program was proposed by the socialists Klitnoon or Jon Queri, it would be labeled the greatest thing since canned bread.

The leftist propaganda apparatus drones on.
