A private plane crashed near Houston's Hobby Airport Monday. And it was a plane that was coming to Houston to transport former President Bush to a conference in Equador.
The plane went down Monday morning near Highway 288 and Beltway 8.
Former President Bush suspendeded his trip to Ecuador because of the crash. A conference organizer says the plane should have flown the ex-president from Houston. Houston District Fire Chief Jack Williams said that the twin-engine Gulfstream jet arriving from Dallas Love Field apparently clipped a tall light tower at a Beltway 8 toll plaza, shearing off a wing. He says the severed wing rests near the base of the tower.
Authorities have shut down Beltway 8 on both directions near Cullen. There is debris scattered across the lanes. Traffic is being directed off the Beltway and onto Cullen Road and Telephone Road.
Fire crews were able to douse the flames. Three people were on board. All three victims, two men and a woman, have been recovered. There were no survivors.
There are some reports of cars have suffered damage from debris, but no injuries on the ground have been reported.
Federal Aviation Administration spokesman Roland Herwig says the Gulfstream jet went down about 6:15am, one-and-a-half miles south of Houston's Hobby Airport.
Herwig says the Gulfstream G-1159-A flight originated at Dallas Love Field. He says the plane's registered owner is Jet Place Incorporated of Tulsa, Oklahoma.
Houston Fire Department assistant chief, Rick Flanagan, said a part of the jet's wing was located near the base of one of the light poles. He said that the wreckage extended about 1,000 yards from the pole into a field.
Airport officials reported that the plane that was on approach to Hobby when it went down. There was a lot of fog and mist during the crash. There's no official word if that played a role in the fatal crash.
Just heard this on FNC to, god was on his side today!
Oddly, a thread was posted a while ago concerning a rumor of a plane crash, Columbia, and former President Bush. I suspect it was pulled for a lack of source, but it does prove that freepers are on the ball.
Amen
That's because President Bush likes G-d.
Someone started a thread earlier because they received an email or phone call from a relative of someone who was on the plane - it seems to have been pulled for being unauthenticated. Perhaps it can be restored or pasted into this one?
It was pretty foggy this morning, and the jet had come from Dallas through a front. The pilot may have forgotten to adjust for barometric pressure with his altimeter and thought he had more altitude than he obviously did.
Yikes.
DAMN!
I can't remember who posted it either, but I believe the poster referenced their sister-in-law as the source or a passenger. Hopefully they'll find this thread.
WOW.... a close call for our former Prez, Bush Sr. - prayers to the families of the three vics in the crash.
Weather was extremely severe in Houston today. Many businesses were closed earlier.
I was posting a reply and when I hit post it had been pulled. So, I have no record of it in my ping log.
Gulfstream II probably had radar altimeter. Did he land way short?
Sad to say, pilot probably wasn't aligned on localizer (left/right of runway).
And, God is Right. (That ought to get the lefties in a snit.)
This was not a Piper Cub. This plane should have been under the control of the tower.
