What Sites fails to mention in this letter is that it is likely that the insurgent (terrorist) "peeping from his blanket" wasn't considered a threat because he wasn't feigning death (he was clearly alive, as were the other two near him). The other one, however, was perceived to be faking death, setting an alarm off in that Marine's head. Just today, Insurgents faking dead fires on Marines. There is good reason the Marine felt threatened by this man an not by the others clearly showing life signs.
Many times, our own calamity is a direct result of our own misguided choice.
He doesn't explain how his tape made it to Arab TV, does he?
Never trust anyone that still wears an 80's surfer cut.
Mr. Sites:
I think we have virtual unanimity here that what you did was wrong. After reading our reasons for saying so, what would have you done differently, if anything?
Don't rust him for a second. Don't give him the time of day if he is assigned to your squad.
This reporter needs to be transferred to a unit that is digging latrines. His presence will interfere with future ops, and may cause the death of fighting men who will think twice and not act in time to protect themselves.
Shut the H*@# up, Mr. experienced war reporter man. You've already said too much as it is. IMO, the Marine in question should have saved one of the bullets, and made you a part of your d*$n story.
Ordinarily, I am a pretty calm, Christian lady.
[I'm not some war zone tourist with a camera who doesn't understand that ugly things happen in combat. I've spent most of the last five years covering global conflict. But I have never in my career been a 'gotcha' reporter -- hoping for people to commit wrongdoings so I can catch them at it.]
Mr. Sites, your need to state the above demonstrates what you have become. The left simply does not understands that the road to hell is paved with good intentions.
Mr. Sites, you knew what would happen if you released the tape, but you did it anyway. I'm sure you realized that this tape would bring you notoriety, you didn't mention it in your posting, but we're not as naive as you would like us to be.
The possibility to get your name out in the public was just too big of a draw for you so you sold out the marines.
Mr. Sites you got your story...but you have lost the respect of your fellow Americans.
