CIA Terrorist Hunter: Bin Laden 'Great' and 'Admirable'
NewsMax ^ | 11/21/04 | Carl Limbacher

In a series of bizarre comments that show the depth of the failed thinking at the nation's premier intelligence service, the former head of the CIA unit charged with capturing or killing Osama bin Laden said on Sunday that the terror mastermind was a "remarkable," "great" and "admirable" man.

"He's really a remarkable man," former CIA agent Michael Scheuer told NBC's "Meet the Press." "[He's a] great man in many ways, without the connotation positive or negative. He's changed the course of history."

Scheuer's book "Imperial Hubris," which the CIA allowed him to publish anonymously earlier this year, was touted during the presidential campaign by critics of President Bush based on its claim that the U.S. is losing the war on terror. Scheuer ran the agency's bin Laden unit from 1996 to 1999.

While he insisted he didn't mean to praise bin Laden, moments later the ex-CIA man told host Tim Russert that the al Qaida chief was "an admirable man. If he was on our side, he would be dining at the White House."

"He would be a freedom fighter, a resistance fighter," Scheuer added, suggesting that the U.S. would welcome an ally who killed 3,000 innocent office workers in a kamikaze sneak attack.

In more revealing comments, Scheuer went on to blame America's "unqualified support for Israel" for bin Laden's rise.

"There is a perception in the Muslim world, and I think there's a perception on the part of many Americans, that the tail is leading the dog on this case," he told NBC. "And perception, for better or worse, is often reality."

In fact, bin Laden bombed U.S. embassies in East Africa, attacked the USS Cole and planned the 9/11 attacks during the height of the Clinton administration's efforts to pressure Israel to cede territory to the Palestinians, a proposal accepted by then-Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Barak but rejected by Yassir Arafat.

Scheuer continued as a senior analyst with the CIA's bin Laden unit until Nov. 12, when he went public in-person with his complaints.

This is one of these types who can't bring himself to make moral judgments. The best thing to do, IMHO, is take whatever intellligence/information he has to offer and then disregard the rest. He's like a small but important tool, a torque wrench that you use when you need to torque... and then you put it back in the tool box and forget about it till you need it again.

I think Goss should go through the CIA and start passing out cyanide capsules.

He really was part of the problem with that non-judgemental jive that is in his head.

I saw it as well, although I don't normally watch MTP. I was channel surfing and happened on to NBC when this dope was commenting. I paused to see why Russert looked perplexed, that's when Russert asked him about the "great" part about Osama-mama.

This dope, Scheuer, did more for our CIA-cleanup cause than anything else that could've possibly been done. The American people got to see in living color that we truly do have traitors in our midst.

Now, if he has previously served in the State Department . . . I could die a happy man. Goss has cojones. He'll clean out the CIA. We need Condi to do likewise at State.

In the Stockholm Syndrome, people are taken CAPTIVE.

This POS-traitor has held America captive.

Scheuer: "I love Osama. He is my hero.
You Americans would have to hang me to change my mind."

Scheuer is just another bureaucratic pencil-pusher portraying himself as a secret agent so people will listen to his anti-American diatribes. He is in the tradition of Richard Clarke and Coleen Rowley - a supposedly apolitical federal employee just doing his job. Scheuer's views are remarkably similar to those of the liberal media, the Europeans, and college professors: our support for Israel provoked 9/11; a "cabal" of "neocons" (i.e., Jews) tricked us into fighting in Iraq on Israel's behalf; we are colonialists and bullies; etc. People like Scheuer are a fifth column within the federal government.

Thankfully, Gerald Ford pardoned him. It was the right move. Besides what Nixon did was nothing. Today, the left is melting.

No, I'm suggesting that he might have investigated the guy for so long that his grudging admiration got less grudging. And I'm sure he feels like he knows bin Laden.

If you read Scheuer’s “Imperial Hubris,” you will discover that Usama bin Laden would not have changed a word in the book if he had written it himself.

Agents like Scheuer are the reason the post Jimmy Carter CIA is referred to as the “Clowns In Action."

The JEWS have too much influence in this country and the JEWS have the US too cozy with the JEWish state.

And the most baffling thing in the world to me is . . . Jews by astronomical droves continue to support the Democrats. When will they see that it is us EVANGELICAL Christians, us morons, us snaggle-toothed Cavemen and women who support Israel . . . not the liberals?

Scheuer knows his subject; he led the analysis of al-Qaeda for many years. His bottom line is that Osama bin Laden and his followers are motivated by the Quran-based concept of “defensive jihad,” which Scheuer says is “wildly popular” in the Islamic world. Why so popular? He quotes British journalist Robert Fisk saying in 2002: “Amid Israel’s brutality toward Palestinians and America’s threats toward Iraq, at least one Arab is prepared to hit back.”

Most of the US Goverment bureacracy, academia and intelligentsia think like this and they are all too smart by half. Without Israel there is still the Koran to goad on the faithful to jihad. Without Israel there are still the Infadels in Europe , the America's and the rest of the planet to render into Dhimmitude. Without Israel there is still a heavenly reward of 72 virgins for each dead mujaheed.

There is a secular prohibition against acknowledging religion as an engine of cultural change. Secular bureaucrats can't wonk what they don't see. Policy analysts, PHD policy wonks and the rest of the bunch advising the Secretaries of of the Air Force, Army and Navy follow the politcally correct path and can't present the simple truth for what it is. RINOs who vote republican and then turn around and then advocate the diminution or destruction of Israel are the real problem. They are wearing cultural blinders just like the Kerry campaign wore and the libs still use.

On the bin Laden unit for how many years? He must have been the guy calling Osama on the satellite phone warning him before each attack.

Totally believable. All Scheuer needs is some Bin Laden clothes and his muslim leanings are complete.

How does a jerk like this get a job like that?

Many strange things happened in the Clinton years. Question is: How does this idiot get to KEEP his job post Sep 11, up until LAST WEEK (Nov 12, 2004)!!! W should have fired #$@?$ TENET on September 12, 2001 and the whole lot of idiots, first and foremost Dick "The Clinton Adm. had no higher priority than fighting terrorism" Clarke.

All these jerks, should have taken the fall for the Prez, a long time ago. Firing them would also have discredited them and their books AND national security would have been enhanced. UN-EFFING-BELIEVABLE!!!
