President Bush stepped into the middle of a confrontation and pulled his lead Secret Service agent away from Chilean security officials who barred his bodyguards from entering an elegant dinner for 21 world leaders Saturday night.

Several Chilean and American agents got into a pushing and shoving match outside the cultural center where the dinner was held. Bush noticed the fracas after posing for pictures on a red carpet with the summit host, Chilean President Ricardo Lagos and his wife and first lady Laura Bush.

Dubya should start packing, and I don't mean his suit cases.

Some Presidents have. And some First Ladies as well. Elanor Roosevelt was known to carry a pistol when she was out and about during WW-II, at times with only a driver. The threat is obviously much worse now. Even the Nazies, Fascists, and even the Japanese militarists were more civilized than the Jihadies.

President Bush is packing. The bulge in back of his suit from the debates was part of the shoulder strap of the holster apparatus.

Hmm, wonder if he has a Texas CHL? :) Not that he needs one of course.

You might enjoy Jerry Doyle's(Garibaldi) radio show. He's a serious conservative.

He's led a very interesting life, and is a very "no B.S." kinda guy.

Macho is all that you have left when everything is taken from you or you realize how far behind the curve you and your country is..........It's a false pride....and
it's far different from the quiet dignity I've seen in poor but proud farmers down there...

This is unbelievable! What were the chilean security agents thinking?!

They have a job to do as well. I suspect we'll find that there was some confusion about which Secret Service agents were to accompany the leaders inside the building. But then again you never know.

A Chilean agent stepped out from behind the door frame to block him. Clearly, the Chilean agents were under strong orders to let no one except the two Leaders (Chile and Foreign) and their spouses pass through that door. They had four agents just inside the doorway, two on each side, prepared to block all comers.

I doubt that too. If you are in a room full of armed men who are practiced in violence and murder, who intend to kill you, who know that they will have to act fast and without questions, who anticipated with considerable planning you being there at that time and place with them, and who are absolutely determined to see you dead, the armed men don't turn their back on you to keep out the Secret Service. You die, right then.

Looks like he's packing a S&W model 10, w/o a safety strap in what looks like a Border Patrol style holster

Could be a Taurus copy of a S&W.

Thanks for the pics.

Sheesh, think there were enough of "them" surrounding Dubya's security detail?

I just love that he reached in and grabbed him free of the fracas.

Gotta love the man, who is a man in so many senses of the word, it just makes me so proud that he's OUR President.

I love this man.

God bless Pres. Bush and Laura - and here's to four more years!

To the poster who suggested that he travel with a Marine detail - I agree. And I think the Marines would love him as much as his SS detail does. I've heard from reliable relatives of an SS guy that they love him and Laura and don't like it when they get rotated off the detail; they want to stay. When they're working for a man, a President like this, who can blame them?

Yes, still a very serviceable weapon. Made me nervous. the old Border Patrol holster was comfortable, but very easy to lose your weapon from. Had it happen to me in a bar fight in "old town" Victorville.

Their job would then be to completely close ranks around the President and, with just a split second to decide, determine if he should be thrown to the ground to be physically protected on-the-spot or hustled out of there as quickly as possible.

Kinda hard to do it they are outside, and he is inside. The Chilean TV report said that the Chilean agents thought the US agents were supposed to go in via a side door.

The video showed an AWACS as part of the security. That is not a good sign. Either they were worried about rogue elements in the Chilean Air Force, which doesn't seem likely. More likely they were worried about Jihadies hijacking planes and flying them into the meeting place. The formal dinner was canceled because the Secret Service insisted on all guests going through metal detectors. The Chileans said no to that, so there was just a small dinner with the Presidents of the US and Chile and their wives. (and some really tense security types on both sides one must imagine).
