If the 2008 Republican primary included candidates Rudy Giuliani, Condi Rice, Tom DeLay, Zell Miller, and Arlene Spector; who would you choose and why?
No, Cheney is not going anywhere. Condi might get the Veep nod in '08 but I doubt she'll be the Presidential nominee.

Well that certainly constitutes a history of erroneous gloom and doom predictions.
Don't honestly know much about him. I do have a feeling that someone other than the usual suspects, who are mostly either too liberal to get the nomination (Rudy) or lacking in political track record and/or the "fire in the belly" (Condi) will get the nomination.
They would make a fabulous couple, er, ticket...

I like Rice, and my only objection to her is that the Presidency is not an entry level elective position. Somebody correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't it true that only military leaders have been able to step into the office of President without having first been elected to some lower office? An eight year stint as Vice President would be a fine way for Rice to prepare for the highest office. She'd only be sixty-two at that time, still plenty young enough to lead this country.
To give you a sense of just how irrelevant all this speculation about 2008 candidates is, just ask yourself this question: How many people were talking about George W. Bush as the GOP candidate for the 2000 presidential election on November 19, 1996?

I would tend to go for Condi given the choices listed.Zell is both too old and doesn't want the job.The others are mostly pro choice RINOs who would alienate the people who just put Bush in office.I would need to know more about where Condi stands on issues she was never forced to address as National Security Advisor or Secretary of State.I also like Delay except he's got some legal baggage that the LSM will spin to the point that he looks like Al Capone by 08.

My thoughts:
Lindsey Graham of SC: Intesting, but NEEDS to get married first. (no further comment)
Rudy Guiliani: RINO, questions about personal morals (messy divorce, flaunting of mistresses). Might attract a third-party challenger on right, and allow Hillary to win with 40% of vote.
Chuck Hagel: Very good prospects. Conservative, but represents a change from neoconservative foreign policy (toward a Kissinger-style realism.) Would do well if Iraqi elections fail, and Iraq is still a mess in 2008.
Specter: are you joking? RINO, and also well into his 70s.
John McCain: good prospects, but age is an issue.
Mitt Romney: Very good prospects. Moderate, but not a RINO. Could mobilize Mormon voters in the primary (significant part of GOP base.) Very successful business career before becoming governor of MA, and could self-finance primary run. Good public speaker.
Condi Rice: No chance. Has never run a campaign. Fairly introverted personality. Large risk to put somebody on the ticket who has never even run for City Council.
Why do we assume that Cheney won't go for it? So far his health has been a non issue and it's not like we've never elected an old guy in poor health before.A Cheney Rice ticket has something for everybody and would give Condi the experiance she needs to go for the top slot when Cheney bows out at a later date for health reasons.
From those choices, I'd go with Zell. I'd rather have George Allen, Rick Santorum or Bill Owens.

Section 2. Whenever there is a vacancy in the office of the Vice President, the President shall nominate a Vice President who shall take office upon confirmation by a majority vote of both Houses of Congress.
Dick Cheney would need to resign or die for this to happen. Even if this does happen, Bush would not put someone as inexperienced as Condi Rice in office.

El Presidente Fox, because he has recent experience in moving people out of his country.
I like Zell Miller as a VP. He's been known to work across party lines and could appeal to swing voters. I doubt that he's interested in running for Prez. As far as Condi, I like her as Sec. of State but not as Prez or VP. We know too little of her positions on the issues and from what we have seen, she's a bit RINO on social issues.
- I also like McCain as VP for the same reason I mentioned about Miller above.
-Elizabeth Dole might be a good pick but will be over 70 by '08
-Frist has already declared interest in running. I like him and his positions on the issues but he's lacking a bit on charisma.
