Envoy: We'll deal with Marine
New York Daily News ^ | 11/18/04 | Richard Sisk

BAGHDAD - A Marine who killed an unarmed wounded Iraqi in a Fallujah mosque "will be dealt with," the U.S. ambassador in Iraq said yesterday, as the military said it was looking into other deaths at the scene of the shooting.

"No one can be happy" about the incident, Ambassador John Negroponte said, "but the important point is that the individual in question will be dealt with."

Iraqi Prime Minister Iyad Allawi's office said he is "very concerned" about the killing, but backed the U.S. efforts. "Unlike others, the prime minister will await the outcome of the investigation before commenting any further," his office said.

The shooting was filmed Saturday by an NBC reporter embedded with the 3rd Battalion, 1st Marine Regiment. Military investigators also are looking to see whether other wounded insurgents were shot, said Maj. Francis Piccoli.

Two other men in the video appear to be suffering from what NBC called fresh and fatal gunshot wounds.

The footage, aired repeatedly on Arabic television, has sparked argument across the Arab world, with most saying it fuels anger against America. But some also blame insurgents for waging battle from mosques.

Despite the furor, Gen. Michael Hagee, commandant of the Marine Corps, defended placing journalists with troops.

At a House Armed Services Committee hearing yesterday, he rejected the claims of Rep. Silvestre Reyes (D-Tex.), who said, "We should not be providing the Al-Jazeera with the kind of propaganda that they've had."

Hagee said "embedded reporters have actually worked very well. They inform the American public about what these great young Americans are doing over there."

Know what? I don't even like your screen name much less your praising the terrorists' "bravery". And now I need to go take a hot shower.

Like Supreme Court Justices, these diplomats turn soft after getting praise in the NY Times, Washington Post or some other MSM. It makes them acceptable on the cocktail circuit. Whenever the MSM refers to someone as having "grown," it means they've sold out to the left in order to be popular with the elites.

Did I praise terrorists? nope, they are scum, unprintable (is there a swearing filter on this site?) scum that deserve to, and in some cases probably already are burning in the fires of hell.

However the idea of the blind fanatic will not do, to beat your enemy you must understand him, and the fact is that the majority of al quaida is not a brainwashed organisation but a group of middle class, well off people with a good education and a hatred of the west, coupled with fanatical bravery.

To defeat a force like this will take more than half arsed invasions of Afghanistan (why were only 12000 troops sent when 120000 can be spared for iraq?) It will require winning over the arab population, something that gets harder to do with each day. Or blowing them all off the face of the earth, but the first option is still easier/less messy.

Please dont insult me by suggesting that i support or admire the terrorists in any way.

And one final thing, whats wrong with my screen name? at least its spelt properly :)

I went to the New York Daily News site and read the article. At the bottom of it, it says this was written by Richard Sisk, WITH NEWS WIRE REPORTS.

That would be AP, Reuters, Agence-
France Press, etc.

I do not trust any of these people to provide an accurate quote from Ambassador Negraponte or anyone else for that matter, as it is THEY who have prejudged and will try to slant the story to cause others to do the same.

The cultural psychosis induced by Islam produces the cults of death, not courage. The deaths of their young, while the adults run.

For these cults, and their symathizers, the history of Iraq, Saddam and Sons, Arafat, and OBL, begins when they wake up in the morning.

The "Saddam was innocent", and our "soldiers die for nothing", is leftist, Arab, European, and Islamist propaganda.

The same propaganda that has been used against Israel for decades, while these cults roamed the globe murdering innocents with impunity.

Read up about it.

And also couldn't it be argued that US and British troops 'die for nothing' in Iraq? the principle reason stated for war, namely WMD has been found to be false, therefore 15000 people have died for nothing, including 1100 US soldiers and 60+ UK soldiers.

Troll Alert!

The sad thing is there won't be a good clean fight, because there is no option acceptable to both sides with less civilian casualties.

Being as one side brought us into this war by causing about 3,000 civilian fatalities, it looks like a dirty fight may be the only option.

Looks like the Bush Administration is going to sacrafice the Marine, that will be great for our boys moral won't it.

I can not think of any commander worth a damn that would not defend the actions of his troops in the field. The US has been blessed with the finest fighting men the world has ever known. Great troops, should have great commanders, our troops deserve better leadership then the draft dodging, PC wimps leading them today.

I wonder if the fact that most of the DC leadership, ran and hid when it was their turn to fight for the nation, is the reason these cowards hide when BS charges like the current one is made against our troops.

Bush sucks, he just really sucks as a Commander in Cheif and as a president, I voted for him because the thought of Kerry apointing judges terrified me. But Bush should be ashamed of his performance as Commander in Cheif. Defending this young Marine agaist the enemies of the nation should be a high priority for a Commander, but where is Bush? Hiding behind Carl Roves skirt?

Even if you disagree with ~100,000 dead Iraqi civilians number, you'd have to agree that we have probably killed way more than 3,000 innocents inadvertently in Iraq. Americans and insurgents could argue all day over whose fault it was. Some might say both sides are at fault because both sides are willing to inflict civilian casualties to win, and neither side will back off.

Here's a fun question: Is an American civilian worth more in eyes of God than an Iraqi civilian?

"This guy has to be thrown to the wolves to make sure that the wolves dont bite back even harder"

Yea, we wouldn't want to actually win a war for a change now would we? Your sentiments prove the wisdom of the saying "No good deed goes unpunished"

Wonder who is going to be foolish enough to willingly fight the next war? I sure as hell would not want to fight for the PC crowd in DC these days. But I have the feelng that this one is going to bring a terrible price to all those willing to throw ths fine young man to the wolves. This one is easy to understand, the motives of those dissing the Marine are easy to understand.

***Defending this young Marine agaist the enemies of the nation should be a high priority for a Commander, but where is Bush? Hiding behind Carl Roves skirt?***

How is it that you know whether Pres Bush is defending this young Marine? Do you have a personal need for him to come to your hometown and tell you? You are not naive - you know that sometimes things work best behind the scenes especially where this Bush hating media is concerned. Sure, nothing would please me more than the President calling a news conference to pin a medal and then tell the media to go to 'ell. How about let's wait and see as far as the President is concerned. In the meantime, continue to champion this young Marine.

So it would have been better for the Marine to have been shot than the Iraqi.

I guess our soldiers are just expendible to some people.

Here's a very good reason for doing just what the Marine did the other day:

http://belmontclub.blogspot.com/

"Marine Lance Cpl. Jeramy Ailes, 22, of Gilroy was killed Monday in Al-Fallujah by small arms fire. "They had finished mopping up in Fallujah and they went back to double-check on some insurgents. From what we gathered, somebody playing possum jumped up and shot him,'' said his father, Joel Ailes, who learned of his death Monday evening. "It's extremely hard." "

"To treat terrorists and other unlawful combatants as if they are the same as lawful combatants is to blur the distinction and defeat the entire purpose of the GC. No good can come from blurring this distinction, no good from elevating the terroist to the status of soldier or from demoting the soldier to the level of a terrorist. It will only further endanger civilians."

Very well stated! It's also time to get these imbedded reporters out of the way of our troops! Our guys have a difficult enough time doing their job without having to put up with this garbage. If you are a terrorist and shooting at our troops, you are fair game and NOT a legal combatant!

"Is an American civilian worth more in eyes of God than an Iraqi civilian?"

"Lefty" suits you. On 911, 3,000 innocents mostly American, were murdered in a surprise attack. Most died a horrible firey death. The attack also permentately scared the New York City sky line. The attack was of sufishent magnitute that it could not be ignored as were other lesser attacks. No government can conduct business as usual while it's cities are being attacked by foriegn agents. This has very little to do with His Judgement on the worth of ones soul, and alot to do with national survival.

One may argue that Iraq was not a party to the 911 attack. To which I say, "Who cares?" The war is really with the Nation of Islam and Iraq is very much a part of the Nation of Islam. The pictures of the Arab Street celebrationg the 911 attack is all the proof I need. Now God may welcome the Nation of Islam into His Kingdom, fine, as long as we get to send them there I am a happy man.
