A WOUNDED US soldier seen on TV shooting dead an Iraqi prisoner was defended last night by SAS hero Andy McNab.
The US marine shot in the cheek earlier machine-gunned the man in the head as he lay bleeding in a mosque in Fallujah.
The soldier feared the Iraqi was pretending to be dead to draw him into a trap.
Just before the killing, a fellow GI yells: Hes f***ing faking hes dead!
Walking away ... victim is obscured by fellow captive after burst of gunfire
The marine faces a murder probe.
But McNab who has stared death in the face said: Its easy for people sitting comfortably in their armchairs in front of the TV to take the moral high ground.
They are not there in Fallujah, in that killing environment.
We dont know what is going through that marines head. The Iraqi could have been hiding a weapon or explosives.
Grisly ... the shot prisoner - on the left - lies dead in Fallujah mosque
Troops are fighting an enemy that doesnt stick to any rules.
The insurgents use mosques to launch attacks. They come out under cover of a white flag, then attack the Americans. They plant booby-trap bombs on dead bodies.
Every soldier has a right to defend himself, and if that is a grey area then so be it.
He probably doesn't "get it".
Not only are these photo bozos in the way during combat, they don't go into the building "first".
I have to imagine that the marines are "communicating" with the tag-alongs now. And I bet they all get the message, but they still probably don't "get it".
We only need one NEWS company, FNC.
Anyone that watches news broadcast from ABC,NBC,CBS, is asking to be duped. Track records don't lie.
Blame the Bush admin. for allowing these guys there in the first place.
Sounds like you're saying that the 'tag-alongs' got the memo, but haven't read the 'meaty' part yet.
Damn straight Mr. Troll we do expect the guy to throw that film in the trash. It isnt news that we are killing the enemy and it isnt his job to try to hang a marine.
Is this media guy a target ?I dunno , I do know if I was in this marines outfit I wouldnt feel too bad if the terrorists got him.
Snakes, rats, rabid dogs and weasels do not come under the Geneva Conventions!
Shoot 'em twice!
So if an insurgent/terrorist/trained monkey was shown shooting a wounded marine in the face that would be ok?
LOL.
So if a rabid dog or a snake was biting a wounded marine would that be okay? Is that what you are asking?.
What would not be okay would be for a Marine, upon encountering a rabid dog or snake, to walk away without shooting it to death.
Wouldn't be a good idea for you to come out against the young Marine.
You are an idiot. The problem is that NBC aired this knowing that it would incite more terrorism. The report could have been made, and the video saved for another time, but the video itself does far more harm than good to our troops and Operation Iraqi Freedom.
No. The problem is the Bush administration allowed him to be there. And people like you, when confronted with the truth, call others names.
If the Marine felt his life was in danger, he had every right to shoot the enemy.
If the second platoon would have taken him into custody without incident, then he would have been pacified, and would be a prisoner.
Pacified means unable to offer any resistance. Until he is pacified, he is still a combatant, wounded or not. A wounded man, especially one bent on martyrdom in the first place, is a potential threat until they are rendered unable to offer resistance. And that's the shooter's call. If the Marine felt threatened, he's got a green light to shoot.
Tough luck for the dead jihadi.
I can just imagine the outcry if the "dead" terrorist was left there only to attack and kill some marines an hour later.
Then the same marine would be in trouble for not doing his job by making sure the enemy was dead.
We dont know what is going through that marines head. The Iraqi could have been hiding a weapon or explosives."
.........it's kill of be killed.
The soldier did what he had to do, was sent to do. the fault is with the camera and the cameraman...they shouldn't have been there.
Hear that Chrissy Matthews
Also .. I couldn't help but notice yesterday, that a few embeds when asked to give their opinion on the matter would not throw judgment on this Marine soldier.
This is the part I don't understand. The Marine shot the one wounded guy who was pretending to be dead. Why not shoot the other wounded bad guys to if he was just a murderin' maniac. This guy pretending to be dead must of triggered a defensive response from the Marine.
I trust the military will see it this way too. I hope anyways.
Very well put.
