Go here and sign this petition! Mark Sanford is a great choice for 2008! He's fiscally conservative but of course he's a social conservative as well.
He's not a "beltway" type and it will take a LOT of work to get him the nomination over the rank-and-file guys like Bill Frist (who is a good guy, don't get me wrong) but it can be done.
I have said before I like Sanford as well as MN Governor Tim Pawlenty for the 2008 Presidential race.
The text does badmouth W a bit, but the fact is that in a fiscal sense, most of us agree Bush could do much better. Granted, maybe this term he will.
However, if the Dems are gonna run Hillary, we need a good candidate to run against her!
Sign this petition, it's only got 12 signatures so far, let's Freep this thing!

Sanford's not a bad choice, if not for '08 then certainly for 2012. I like what he's done down here in SC, or at least tried to do; the chief executive is not strong here, the General Assembly holds all the power, and the executive branch is fractured into tons of independent little commissions and boards who answer to legislators, not the Governor.

Lets wait about three years before we start backing candidates.

I'm signed in Sanford/Pawlenty '08.
That is if the Conspiracy Guy ticket doesn't make the ballot.

Hate to be cynical, but how does he play on television? Does he have a Southern accent?

I won't waste my time taking a look at him (or any candidate) until he hires a top shelf campaign manager and finance chairman.
It's sorta like betting on horse races. The best jockeys ride the best horses. The best horses are trained by the best managers.
There will be a slew of "vanity" candidates in 2008 who have no chance of winning and don't bother even hiring a good campaign manager. Losers are a waste of time.

I like what I've heard about Sanford. The other two governors worth looking at are Pawlenty and Barbour.
Don't even think about nominating someone other than a governor.

Is Mark Sanford related to former North Carolina Governor, Terry Sanford? Just wondering.

How is Mark Sanford related to the late Gov. and Sen. Terry Sanford, D-NC?

I loved it when he let loose those pigs on the SC senate floor. Oink Oink!
I'd like to see him go in with a hatchet and start hacking the fat out of our fed gov.

Good grief, the guy has been in the Governor's mansion for less then 2 years. Let's see what happens in '06, and then think about it.

Notice the majority of serious Dem candidates (with the exception of Dean) in 2004 held or had held federal office (or, in Wes Clark's case, had substantial military experience).
My point? As long as foreign policy and national security remain at the forefront of most voter's minds, it's going ot be very difficult for a governor with zero foreign policy, defense policy or national security experience to break through.
