LONDON (Reuters) - A television pool report by U.S. network NBC said on Monday that a U.S. Marine had shot dead an unarmed and wounded Iraqi prisoner in a mosque in Falluja.
The Iraqi was one of five wounded prisoners left in the mosque after Marines had fought their way in on Friday and Saturday. There was no immediate comment from the Pentagon (news - web sites) on the report.
U.S. forces launched an offensive one week ago on Falluja, and have gained overall control of the formerly rebel-held city, although scattered resistance remains.
The pool report by NBC correspondent Kevin Sites said the mosque had been used by insurgents to attack U.S. forces, who stormed it and an adjacent building, killing 10 militants and wounding the five.
Sites said the wounded had been left in the mosque for others to pick up and move to the rear for treatment. No reason was given why that had not happened.
A second group of Marines entered the mosque on Saturday after reports it had been reoccupied. Footage from the embedded television crew showed the five still in the mosque, although several appeared to be already close to death, Sites said.
He said one Marine noticed one of the prisoners was still breathing.
A Marine can be heard saying on the pool footage provided to Reuters Television: "He's fucking faking he's dead. He faking he's fucking dead."
"The Marine then raises his rifle and fires into the man's head. The pictures are too graphic for us to broadcast," Sites said. No images of the shooting were shown in the footage provided to Reuters.
The report said the Marine, who had returned to duty after being shot in the face a day earlier, had been removed from the field and was being questioned by the U.S. military.
Sites said the shot prisoner "did not appear to be armed or threatening in any way."
I dont think he did anything wrong. PEriod. Booby traps everywhere.
I would have used far more bombs. Let their own munitions take themselves out with the secondaries.
I also would have the place CRAWLING with UAVS and robo/cam guns cars like I have seen. With tear gas to flush them out so the gun ships and machine them down....
I saw it on fox and the terrorist was pretending to be dead. Another one was slumped against him. The marine shot one of them, then when the camera came back, the other one suddenly came alive.

The "insurgents" are terrorists and therefore not bound by the Geneva Conventions.
Meanwhile American troops will always be held to an impossible standard because the liberal media LOATHES the military.

If he thought the prisoner was faking, there is a good chance he was.
I remember 1970-1971..if there is any question of being a threat to your personal safety or the safety of your men...eliminate the threat first and foremost!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Damn, I am really pi$$ed. Who is the reporter, he's the person the marine should have shot first?
This incident points to the larger problem of embedded reporters on the front-lines, IMHO. Things can be taken out of context very easily.
Perhaps this media fairy can lead the charge to clear out the remaining rooms, with no mistakes..

In some of the pictures of Marines..I have seen them with an extra pump action shotgun(trench gun) slung and their back. They were favorite close in weapon of some marines in Vietnam. A really good home defense weapon also.

I'm sure he was thinking that these monsters have been cutting heads off aid workers, placing explosives on dead terrorist bodies to kill US troops and waving white flags to draw US troops in and then attacking them. I realize taht we are better than them, but sheesh, it's time that we start protecting our own and stop giving a crap about these scumbags. It's a hell of a thing that the US has to play by the rules, but nobody else does. It makes it one darn tough war to fight. This is why we should have taken Fallujah in April...granting the muslim appeasers any credence simply equals more soldiers in harm's way.
They feign death, and shoot our unsuspecting Marines, they plant IED's in dead bodies, so EFM all and take no prisoners. This is a WAR damnit, I am sick of this BS!!

Two things : The reporter said that just the day before, not only was the Marine in the story, shot in the face. But, there was a Marine killed by a booby trapped body.
Just think if Specter has his way we would be subjecting this Marine to the International Court!!!!
