I have decided to give to those serving in the armed services as opposed to my children and wife for Christmas. However, I want to direct these funds to an efficient provider; i.e. more funds for those providing and less for the marketers. I would appreciate advise from those of you who know as to who can deliver on this basis. Thanks , George
Send me a Money Order and I will make sure it gets to the right place....
Your taxes provide for the troops. Provide for your family.
As long as your wife and kids are aware of this....they can help you make up packages for our troops.
Operation Save Or Troops (OSOT) near Ft. Lewis is one you may want to look into. The above link is a news article about an effort they are in the middle of to seend cards and Christmas stockings to troops in the Middle East.
Anyone on the Washington State local message board can share more with you.
Two stupid responses. I expectted better.

Our family has adopted a soldier through this website. We've sent him a care package and bought him new boots. My kids draw him pictures and he e-mails us regularly and sent us a picture of himself. We are getting ready to send out a Christmas care package to him.
I like the personal nature of this donation but I believe that they also take general monetary donations too.

Support our President. He will take care of our troops!
Please....spend your money on your children for Christmas....I know of no trooper who would want it any other way....
I think this would be the most appreciated gift for the troops:

But I would still suggest you remember your wife and kids with some not necessarily expensive, but nice presents at Christmas.
If he wants to do this, what better way for his family to celebrate the holidays? Our troops need to know we care and I don't just mean supplying them with a cigarette and an MRE.
I guess I am stunned. My kids have been to great colleges and would support this idea. One of my sons has been in the service as I have. I / we would like to do this and what I get are cheap shot answers. Ergo I am stunned. I believe there are Freepers out there with more intelligent ideas.
Thanks
George
There is a college funds for the children of our servicemen and women who have their lives taken in the line of duty. Sean Hannity and Ollie North are part of the effort.
I would suggest that this could be one way to help the family's of those who serve. But, remember your own children, you could just cut down a little.
The way he worded his post sounded like his Christmas money would be spent on a trooper(a noble cause)...my hubby spent 15mos in Iraq and recieved numerous care packages, many from freepers,....if he thought for one minute that someone denied their child a Christmas for his benefit, he would be devastated........let this freeper do both....a donation or adopt a trooper...
We all should support this idea. Mine isn't a cheap shot answer, I'm just not sure what our troops need the most. I've seen on some threads that they really need phone cards to call home.
we are doing something like this in our family, too. May I sugguest adopting a unit of troups from www.anysoldier.com ? That's what we're doing. We spent this weekend shopping for "necessities" for Christmas gifts for the troups. We're going to mail them to our selected troup this week.
Good luck!!!
