"But within an hour, Alpha 2-1 and its crew had refueled, reloaded and returned to Fallujah."
That last sentence says it all. God bless the American troops.
I can remember the CBS 60 minutes report on the Bradley saying it should be canceled. They did the same on the apache helo.
Consistently wrong.
Simple to understand command guidance.
I'm for pulverizing that place from the air. We will help them rebuild it anyway, lets not risk the boys. Flatten it.
Isn't he a little over-qualified to be the gunner?
Damn, and I thought working the slurpee machine as 7-11 was brutal.
I'm curious as to how soldiers and/or Marines get sleep and food in an urban combat setting. Do they plan to take breaks?
What are the ROE's for Bradleys in Fallujah? I bet if we saw them, we'd be shocked at how PC they are.
The Liberals' motto!
"Since arriving in March, the men had run over eight bombs. Since fighting began in Najaf in August, the Bradley had been hit by 16 RPGs"
This seems the point of the story that should be emphasized. I had no idea the Bradley could absord that much punishment and remain in the fight. I recall that movie about the Bradley program as one big boondoggle yielding a useless machine.
Just imagine what the fighting would be like if we didn't have the uranium depleted armor (and other composites that are still secret) in the Badleys and the Abrams and the British Challenger tanks.
There are no other vehicles on the planet that can stand up to a modern high explosive RPG attack.
Without this armor, our guys would be sustaining much heavier losses and the terrorist's ranks would be much much higher (there is nothing more deflating to the terrorists than hitting a Bradley head on with 5 RPGs only to see their compatriots take a bullet in the head one-by-one. "Run Ismael, run.")
The article the Bradley is tracked, or rather that iron bars could foul the tracks.
On the news, I ve seen 8 wheeled rubbertired vehicles that are OD/green. Are these American or they Iraqi? I didn't think they were Bradleys and I didn't think the Iraqi troops had any vehicles but don't know what they are.
I so admire these our fighting men. I humbly pray they will kept free from harm. Way to go Guys!!
Those are armored personnel carriers, not Bradleys.
Not one soldier should die protecting civilians from harm. This city should have been flattened after the beginning of the troubles. Cordoned off, let people out after they are identified as non-combatants, and leveled. This war is becoming more and more like Vietnam all the time. The ROE should be the same as were in place in WW II. The war is being micromanaged from DC, with targets selected in a war room, and our soldiers being put in harms way, to make the war seem prettier and safer.
Takes a lickin', keeps on tickin'.
You're probably right.
