Marine Staff Sgt. Tom McCarty comforts Jan Lukac during the funeral for Lukacs son, John, on Wednesday in Las Vegas. Lukac, a Marine, was killed last week in Iraq. (John Locher, Las Vegas, NV Review-Journal / AP photo)
I honor the young Marine for comforting the dad in his sorrow . . . but the photographer ought to have stayed away. He's pretty close to a ghoul.
The U.S. service man (and woman) -- the toughest, and the tenderest, people in the world. To enemies in the field, their worst nightmare; to allies and to oppressed peoples, their greatest defender.
Yep, that is a heart breaker. May God walk with those and comfort those who have sacrificed so much for the freedom of others.
You are right, darn it! God bless all of the soldiers, young and old, and God bless the parents who let them be the brave ones, and give them to our America, and God bless our President who loves them all! I know he wouldn't trade one hair on their heads for all the world if he didn't know it is absolutely necessary to keep us here at home safe from these monsters!
to late-arriving posters/lurkers...
you do need to visit post 153 of this thread for a moment of reflection...
May the father of this brave marine, and the families of all the fallen know that their loved one's did not die in vain. May they be surrounded with comforting friends and hear the voices of those who honor their memories, and may God grant them peace.
I for one do not need to see this photo as I am aware of it daily, but thank you for posting it, anyway. I think of them every day as I watch the reports on the news and I ask anyone who wants to, to join me in a prayer: Lord, you are in control of all things. We thank You that you have blessed America, and look to You as we fight against those who are determined to keep Iraq in turmoil. Cause their numbers to quickly diminish, Lord for their plans are evil, and they despise peace and freedom. Grant our forces and those in charge all wisdom as they fight against this reckless enemy. Protect our military and grant them an overwhelming victory in Fallujah and all over Iraq. Amen
