Images from the Battle of Fallujah (lest we forget or take it for granted)
Yahoo News Photos ^ | 11/12/04

Posted on 11/12/2004 11:27:25 AM PST by Wolfstar

This thread honors the service and sacrifice of our Armed Forces, and reminds us of why we here at home can go about our daily business in peace. Street-to-street is the toughest type of warfare. Air cover is being flown by pilots from the USS John F. Kennedy, as well as the U.S. Air Force from bases in the area.

Yep, that is a heart breaker. May God walk with those and comfort those who have sacrificed so much for the freedom of others.

"The likes of John Kerry, Ted Kennedy, and the other super-rich Dems would scream like stuck pigs if we tried to pay the folks in our Armed Forces what they're really worth. Yet not of those "honorable" senators ever consider not taking their salaries and pensions, which they don't need."

Amen to that! I think we often forget that the most elite and rich demos are probably amoung the cheapest humans in this country when it comes to their monies. They only know how to spend other peoples money.

Although the Left loved to mock the service of President Reagan, the truth is that he joined the Army Reserve as a private in 1937 as rumors of a second war in Europe began. If not the first Hollywood star to volunteer, he was certainly among the very first. Following intensive training he was Commissioned a 2nd Lieutenant in the Officers Reserve Corps of the Cavalry. (As we who love RWR know, he was a terrific horseman his entire life.)

In 1942, he was called to active duty with the US Army Air Corps. Due to an old football injury, he was not allowed into a combat unit. He was assigned to the 1st Motion Picture Unit, which made over 400 training films. Those training films probably helped to save countless lives of soldiers, sailors and Marines, although I'm sure RWR wished he could have served in combat. In 1943 he was promoted to Captain, and it was in this grade that he was honorably discharged in 1945.

Funny, I don't feel besmirched. Maybe I should wear my feelings on my sleeve
so I know what besmirched feels like.

"BTW, what do you think of those two photos of the Marines dragging those puny terrorists around by the scruffs of their necks? Cool, huh?!"

Well wait for the L/MSM commie/farleft socialist's to make comments on it somewhere along the line. I can hear it now,
cruel marine man handle poor fallujah resident. Resident now requires constructive surgery on his nose, to shorten it by some ten inches after being dragged threw the street after dropping his RPG. The poor resident of fallujah swares by the name of allah that he did not fire the RPG at any one, he just happened to find it laying on a sidewalk.

I understand your point of view. But realize that, in many towns and smaller cities in the country, the funerals of their sons and daughters who die in Afghanistan and Iraq are very big news. I would rather that their deaths be covered by their local newspapers than that they go totally ignored. Besides, this particular photograph seems to show a man who is not blessed by a supportive family. He appears to be alone with only the young Marine to comfort him. If that is the case, publicizing his loss will cause members of the broader community who care to come to his assistance. And that cannot possibly be a bad thing.

McTerrorist...hehehehehehe. I like it. And I agree. He's probably already pushing up whatever passes for daisies in Iraq.

Maybe I feel differently because I do have a large family.

We were involved in a tragedy here locally years ago and lost a family member. The family closed ranks against the news jackals and photographers. They were intrusive and rude, and we resented their attempts to bother the family very much. Our standard responses were "No comment" and "Out".

I think a more sensitive photographer could have achieved the same purpose by photographing the father and the Marine from the back. Backs bowed, arm over shoulder, and the flag-draped coffin in the background. Would have achieved the purpose of showing his loss without laying bare the agony in his face.

Sorry, to me this is just gut level wrong, to have a grown man's naked soul displayed for all the world to gawk at.

That's great! I didn't know there was another pay raise in the '05 budget. Nevertheless, it frosts me that scum like Teddy Kennedy, who doesn't need it, gets paid big bugs as a U.S. senator while our military don't get paid half of what they deserve, in my opinion.

Their are no women in marine combat units.

I didn't think so. I think one or two people who posted earlier on the thread misread a couple of very young male faces. The features of an 18 or 19-year-old guy with a baby face could look feminine in some situations. (And no, for you cranks ou there, it doesn't mean such a baby-faced guy is gay.)

NO shoes on those feet = foreign fighter

When the locals give em' a loner gun they ask for the shoes because they don't trust them......

You can't run far without shoes and if they're caught with shoes on and the gun that means their stealing......and you don't get a few months in the pokey being pampered and well feed in the middle east for that crime shall we say......

LOL! Something like that will be in the next Michael Moore documentary. And Dan Rather is already manufacturing memos to show that Bush ordered it.

Women have been fighting beside the men through out all conflicts.
BS.

When push comes to shove women can kick-a$$ as good as the next person. More BS.

Just because you want to believe, doesn't make it true.
