I agree and thats part of the problem. Many women are asking for it. I remember the last time I helped out a woman who was being hit by a man. My friend and our two dates were walking into a club. Aman and a woman were fighting in the parking lot. It did not look real serious but my date said dont just stand there do something so I walked up and as he came around the van I sucker punched him and jumped on top of him. Next thing I knew his woman was on me hitting and clawing me. I am very careful about breaking up domestic disturbences and cops know this. They are very cautious as well. I believe stats show more cops being killed this way then any other.

"All that is necessary for the forces of evil to take over the Earth is for a few good men and women to do nothing."

That's a pretty uplifting type of statement.. But it's pretty simplistic. And really... I don't think it's at all accurate. Whether the forces of evil take over this earth or not... is not in the hands of men and women.

This sounds like a gang matter, pimps or drug dealers.

I don't blame people for not interfering, but it would have been a good idea if someone had gotten the plate number at least. I wouldn't even venture to write it down with two gangsters looking on, but I would repeat it until they were leaving and then write it down.

I don't know how much that would help, but even if they changed the plates or ditched the car it might give the police a lead.

<< I don't know the answer >>

Within five years predict a fundamental change in society's response to witnessing events. New model cellular phones have video camera; just as this article was highlighted because of the video capture, we as citizens will have the capability to video the event and even send it through the cellular network. The 911 operator would be able to see the action, or could also be sent to your local news agency or even your lawyer.

I believe this technology will significantly change open behavior in society.

That makes sense. At least one would be able to capture the event and have some sort of evidence etc.

I witnessed something similar several years ago in a parking lot across the street from my house. It also appeared that the young woman knew the men, and probably had arrived there in the vehicle with them, and gotten out, before being forced back in. I saw it from 20-30 yards away and there was no way I could have intervened, it happened VERY quickly. I couldn't even get the plate number, since the two young men were standing in front of it as they put her in the back (it was a Jeep type vehicle). I called police as the vehicle was pulling out of the lot, but they weren't able to find it. The sad truth is that probably even if they had, the woman would have refused to press charges, and would be voluntarily hanging out with the guys again in no time.

The thing to do would have been to get on your cell phone and stay in sight of the vehicle till the Calvary arrived.

I'm 99.9% sure they were in a stolen car and packing!

Yea the answers aren't real clear are they. I want to help others in need and know it's the right thing to do, but with our society being in a state of entropy, it puts pressure on many folks to just "mind their own yard" as my father used to say. When a peace officer seriously instructs me to use vigilante justice to take care of my problems, it reinforces this fact.

There are also so many reality shows where they do stuff just to shock and embarrass someone who reacts. Then they sit around laughing and making fun of the person duped by the act or acts. This type of thing is happening more and more just by teens looking to shock people. This summer alone i saw teens in parking lots twice play this type of shock for reaction and one group ended up arrested because it seemed very real.

I posted this on another thread about the same story before isa w this thread so i though iwould repost it here

the people stood by and did nothing becasue that is exactly what they have been trained to do by the police who want the glory for themselves. The cops really really hate it when lowly peons stop and solve crimes to the point where some of the civies get arrested themselves everyonece in awhile for daring to try to think and act for themselves because what started out as a stalking or assault now is a kidnapping because no one prevented it.So now the cops have a major felony they can arrest someone on instead of a misdemonor or minor felony and in six months to a year the y go to thier bosses and say. "Golly gee boss man lookie here I got all these major felony arrests in my carreer dont you think its time I get a substancial raise and a gold shield for it ?"

I think I know where you are trying to go with your argument, but there comes a time when direct action is called for.

I will guarantee you that if good people don't get involved in the process of keeping our society civil, it will become less and less civil.

Street crime is function of good people doing nothing out of fear.

I refuse to live my life in fear, and if/when I witness another street crime, I'll get involved to the maximum extent of my capabilities!

If other good people would choose to be good citizens and get involved, a lot of crime would just not happen. The bad guys (and gals) are certainly outnumbered by the good guys 'n gals. All we have to do is not be afraid to get involved and the criminal's jig is up.
