Possible Kidnapping Caught on Tape Friday, November 12, 2004
CORONA, Calif. — Two men were caught on a mall's security camera as they chased a woman through a parking structure, then grabbed and stuffed her into the trunk of a car.
Nearby shoppers seemed to notice the apparent abduction, but none attempted to stop it.
Police on Thursday were still trying to determine the identities of the woman, believed to be in her 20s, and two men involved in the Sunday evening incident at the Corona Discount Mall.
The woman's videotaped reaction upon seeing the men suggested she knew them.
Detective Frank Zellers said the incident was being investigated as a kidnapping.
"It's very discouraging right now and it's really difficult for us, because we don't know who the victim is," he told KCAL-TV. "And it's obvious that some kind of crime occurred. We don't know who the suspects are and who the victim is."
The department had received several calls from witnesses and others in recent days, but had no solid leads, Officer Jesse Jurado said. He said investigators had not yet ruled out the possibility that the incident was a hoax.
A security camera with a view outside the front of the mall recorded the scene as the woman walked from a parking lot to the sidewalk outside the entrance.
When a black Toyota Solara raced up and braked, the woman looked over her shoulder at the car and took off running into a parking structure with the vehicle in pursuit.
Despite a fuzzy videotape image, the woman can be seen running down a parking aisle as two men jump out of the Solara and chase her. One man threw the woman over his shoulder, carried her back to the car and put her in the trunk, which the other man had opened.
A security guard at the mall heard the woman yelling for someone to call the police as she was being stuffed in the trunk, Jurado said.
A handful of shoppers visible in the foreground of the scene appeared to turn their heads and watch the incident. In addition, several motorists drove through the scene.
The car's right front tire was a smaller, spare donut-type tire, police said.
Corona is a Riverside County city of 138,000 about 40 miles southeast of Los Angeles.

Before you condemn the people around the scene, you should find out what happened. My guess is that things happened very quickly and the people didn't even realize what was going on.
Have you ever broadsided someone with a flying cross-body tackle from between two parked cars? It's amazingly effective, and quite stealthy, to be honest.
No way. I would have at least got on my cell phone ASAP though.
Always armed with something. Most people have cell phones these days and can call immediately. Hopefully atleast 1 person got the license plate number. Besides you of all people should know that you never know who's carrying a gun here in Texas. I love our concealed handgun law. :)

I dare to say this....but we should protect women more. Walk with them, insist they do not go alone anywhere with out a male friend or two. I hope that doesn't sound too conservitive....or other...
Yes. I would have at least parked my car in front of theirs or SOMETHING to distract them.
Anything to stop this kind of stuff. These clowns KNOW they can get away with it because they know they can count on 'bystanders' to take the attitude "I might get hurt - I'm gonna mind my own business..."
This was in Kalifornia where only gansta punks and the overlords are allowed to be armed.
I saw that tape and the female DEFINETLY knew the kidnappers because she recognised the car EVEN BEFORE IT STOPPED and started running. My guess, they were her pimps or she owed them drug money. What's odd is so many bystanders have cell phones today and could've wrote down the car license plates and phoned it into authorites and this incident would be solved asap.

I hope it isn't one of those stupid pranks I see on MTV. It's not funny and should be prosecuted.
Most witnesses were not close enough to their own cars to accomplish that.
I think that's a waste of time. I tried calling 911 a couple of weeks ago while watching a road rage guy threaten another driver with a car.... in the middle of a busy road that he had stopped in the middle of. The 911 operator (a member of Jessie's minority) was like.. you can't file a complaint unless he's waving the gun at you. Seriously.... I finally hung up on her after about 30 seconds of frustration. Fortunately the guy didn't shoot anybody. But if I had shot him or something.... I'd be in jail for taking the law into my own hands.

Yeah, you're right about that.
But this kind of stuff infuriates me. I'd have done SOMETHING and don't understand when there's people around who don't.
Or a license number , or a description, or follow them and call in the position to police. there is alot you can do and not get too close.
I pray that they are caught.
