Hey, Mom, you oppressor and denyer of opportunity!

Come on over and have some fun on a homeschooling argument. I've got to run off on an important errand, and need you to take over for me.

Make sure you lock the boys in a closet first, just in case they try to "socialize" with someone outside the family.

Homeschoolers are provided a step by step curriculum and many have to pass annual state tests. Most homschooled children perform better than their public school peers. If you could see what is going on in the public schools today I'd bet you would change your tune. Saying Merry Christmas is taboo but any other religious salutation is fine. If my kids were school aged there is no way I'd let them attend. The liberal, secularist agenda is way too prominent and I live in a rural area. I can't imagine what the cities must be like.

Again I am very skeptical of the "epidemics" of ADD

My college daughter has ADD. She graduated HS with honors and recieved substantial scholarships. After getting settled this year as a freshman, she decided she would attempt college without medication.

At first she thought she was having a great day. Her friends however, thought she was acting too silly, she missed writing down a homework assignment and wasn't able to complete a pop quiz on a subject she knows very well. Her experiment lasted one day. When she was diagnosed in second grade, she was considered to be 2 standard deviations above the mean yet her teacher thought she was not ADD. The teacher placed her entire observation on behavior which of course is only part of ADD. Within 4weeks of going on medication she went from being in a remedial reading course to being the top of her class. So, based on our experience ADD is real. I do however agree that it is often misdiagnosed for other things.

What they aren't provided with is a liberal mindwashing. That's a problem for lefties.

Home schoolers nowadays have science labs, music classes, art lessons with a regular group of other kids. They're busier than public school kids. And tests prove they perform better quite a bit better. My fear is only that they're a little too coddled which can lead to self centeredness.
My kids go to public school and my husband and I are both public school teachers so I'm not on the defensive.

Social skills are overrated; actually, the term is meaningless, manners is what we used to call it.

Saying Merry Christmas is taboo...

Off on another tangent: This is one of my pet peeves.

I'm not Jewish, but if someone says Happy Hannukah (sp?) to me, I don't interpret it as a direct attack.

"Merry Christmas" does not mean "Convert or die." I make a point of NEVER saying "Happy Holidays."

Well, how would you react if my kids would tell to yours "Jesus, if he ever existed, was not the messiah, not god and belief in Jesus as part of a so-called trinity is politheism..."

I'd get a case of the vapors...

We're homeschooling our children so that they can learn the Truth, which includes the doctrines of Christ's Church, and to defend their Catholic faith. Our children will learn to counter the arguments of atheists and rationalists with reason. They will learn to counter the arguments of Jews and other Christians with arguments from Scripture and reason, etc.

I am sure you would be outraged,

Why on earth would I be outraged if this is what they truly believed?

...but this is the truth of Judaism...

You're free to believe what you want. But how do you reconcile your abortions with these Scripture passages?

Jeremiah 1:5

"Before I formed you in the womb I knew you..."

Leviticus 20:2

"Say to the Israelites: 'Any Israelite or any alien living in Israel who gives any of his children to Molech must be put to death."

So better keep proselytism out of public schools because these kind of remarks are a two-way street!

We're keeping our children out of these God-free prisons for children who have committed the crime of being born. They're all yours.

So, an average of 800. Sounds like day laborer material.

Worse, the surviving child will "know" all kinds of things that are not true. The other will know nothing, it is dead.

I'm sure we'd all be OUTRAGED if someone told our children that Jesus didn't exist. I know for sure, I'd be questioning my own faith. And I'd expect my own kids to toss their Bibles in the trash, as well. And then I'd call my attorney and march right down to the school...

I just wanted to warn you, the guy is clearly a troll.

This troll reminds me of someone at DU. I once singed up to discuss tax issues over there and got intangled with a female econ professor. She claimed that tax cuts didn't have an effect on the economy. Amazing.

But the fact that parents aren't qualified to teach their children is a fact,

Maybe in your case, I'd agree. I definitely believe YOU should not homeschool.

Because the vast majority of parents aren't qualified to teach to their children and schools teach other skills beside the academic ones...

My opinion of public schools is that they operate from a flawed premise; they begin by placing all the students of a certain age in a setting where they can be reached by pouring knowledge down upon them as much as if I were to place all the pots from my kitchen cabinets on the floor and then turn the garden hose loose to rain into all.

When, after a great part of the floor is covered in water and all the smaller-capacity pans are full, I turn off the water and stand in wonder that I have so many half-full pans and so much unused water on the floor.

I'm with you brother! I provide special services at several local schools. I refuse to be denied my cultural history and freedom of speech by saying the PC "Happy Holidays". You should see the scowls I get.

First ths isn't a talk on abortion... But if you want scriptures, try this one which shows the big difference between a fetus and a born child: Exodus 21:22 If men who are fighting hit a pregnant woman and she miscarries but there is no serious injury, the offender must be fined whatever the woman's husband demands and the court allows. But if there is serious injury to the woman, you are to take life for life. The fetus isn't a human being in the Bible until born... As simple as that! Commentators as varied as Rashi and the Rambam agree on that... I am sure your Hebrew is not up to par. If you want to discuss abortion and religion, I am sure you can start a thread... It won't help of course as your position is completely wrong, but then it won't hinder you either!

The question is what happens to the average kid with the average parent...

And the answer is...it's none of your business.

The scripture shows you are wrong. In the example, the woman is alive, the child is dead. LIFE FOR LIFE.

The LIFE of the person who caused the death for the LIFE of the unborn baby.

You sink your own boat. It says YOUR LIFE OR the LIFE of the abortionist (the persons who caused the death) should be taken for the offence. It's the death penalty for you because you killed your child.

You don't read or reason well for an alleged professor.

I'd tell you that you are wrong, have no idea what you're talking about, are misinformed, the facts don't back you, the exact opposite is true, etc, etc, but other folks have already done that.
