President Bush yesterday moved aggressively to resurrect his plan to relax rules against illegal immigration, a move bound to anger conservatives just days after they helped re-elect him.
The president met privately in the Oval Office with Sen. John McCain to discuss jump-starting a stalled White House initiative that would grant legal status to millions of immigrants who broke the law to enter the United States.

Dust off those Spanish textbooks and enjoy.
Bunch of drama queens. I'm glad to see Bush sticking it to them. The naysayers seem to think that now that they inhabit this country, no one else should be welcome. I'm glad we have a president who does not have such a narrow view of our country. The people have spoken.
You bring up something interesting, if I might ask. Many employers on a routine basis might hire private investigators to perform background checks on applicants they consider hiring. Many businesses depend on this, to protect them from theft, espionage, bad credit history, and other offenses. They ask the applicant for permission, by using their SS# and date of birth, to run a check.
Are you saying the EEO no longer permits background checks, even with permission? Would this law (crime against the employer) be on the EEO website?
I swear they make it so damn difficult for someone to run an independent business, especially if you try to keep it honest.
Why don't you call Tom Tancredo. He seems to have a lot of pull with the White House. Bahhhahahhahahahahaha
You said it. We can't stand this to go on the way it is here in So CAL, and now it will get worse. WHYYYYY, MISTER PRESIDENT? Why are you doing this to us? This is KILLING the middle class in So CAL.
This just pisses me off.
We need a phone/fax campaign like the Specter one to head this off. Let's get a list together and start this one up. Strike while the iron is hot!
If only Tom Tancredo had actually run for President. :)
So fresh after folks like me, held our noses a voted GOP, Bush is going to shove his open borders, free citizenship, higher taxes, high crime, desovle the USA policy in our faces huh? Well get ready for a long, cold four years. No more Bushes in the White House ever.
I have been asking this for a long time. Still no idea
Yeah, um, we just had an election for that.
It was last week.
Tuesday I believe.
I can't claim to know what Bush does love, but it aint' God, country and family. He loves power, he loves money, he loves Karl Rove, he loves American Empire, he loves John Wayne, he loves to play cowboy, he loves Grover Norquist, he loves tax cuts. He loves first term tax cuts with NO spending vetoed, and no concern with who gets to pay the bill. Guess who pays? WE DO! If Jesus could come back and meet with Bush, Rove and Cheney, he would puke.
NO F'N WAY!!!!!!!
Hasn't it been repeatedly reported that Vicente Fox has asked Bush for this on several occasions?
Not really much mystery here.
Principles of Immigration Reform -- The President's proposal is based on several basic principles:
Protecting the Homeland by Controlling Our Borders: The program should link to efforts to control our border through agreements with countries whose nationals participate in the program. It must support ongoing efforts to enhance homeland security.
But it wont. "Agreements" with countries whose nationals participate in the program? An alien from another planet could figure out after a short study of politics in Mexico; that El presidente Fox has no problem with letting the undesireables of Mehico suck off the teet of the U.S.
Serve America's Economy by Matching a Willing Worker with a Willing Employer: When no American worker is available and willing to take a job, the program should provide a labor supply for American employers. It should do so in a way that is clear, streamlined, and efficient so people can find jobs and employers can find workers in a timely manner.
The wrong solution to the problem. The quote "When no American worker is available and willing to take a job, the program should provide a labor supply for American employers." should be replaced with "when taxes on business, envirnomental regulations, and union overhead prohibit American companies with American workers from competing lets supply them with Mexicans who will work for a 1$ and hour with no benefits (they don't need benefits when they can be permitted to use entitlement healthcare)
Promoting Compassion: The program should grant currently working undocumented aliens a temporary worker status to prevent exploitation.
Undocumented aliens are criminals...prosecute and deport them....thats the law.
Participants would be issued a temporary worker card that will allow them to travel back and forth between their home and the U.S. without fear of being denied re-entry into America.
No doubt this card will be easily counterfitted for the benefit of all Mexicans.
Providing Incentives for Return to Home Country: The program will require the return of temporary workers to their home country after their period of work has concluded.
Yeah...after their period of work is concluded...which will be....never. That is just a pipe dream. Once they're here....they're staying....thats reality.
The legal status granted by this program would last three years, be renewable, and would have an end.
If the gov is not going to enforce the current immigration laws, how are they going to enforce this?
During the temporary work period, it should allow movement across the U.S. borders so the worker can maintain roots in their home country.
Riiiight...thats laughable.
Protecting the Rights of Legal Immigrants: The program should not connect participation to a green card or citizenship. However, it should not preclude a participant from obtaining green card status through the existing process. It should not permit undocumented workers to gain an advantage over those who have followed the rules.
They are not citizens and should not enjoy the rights of citizens of the United States. This is why the "non-amnesty" plan IS amnesty.
Way!!!!
Enjoy the mandate.
Got Spanish?
GO TOM GO!!!
Tell everyone you know down on the border to hang on to their hats, and above all, stay safe. It's going to get ugly down there.
