President Bush yesterday moved aggressively to resurrect his plan to relax rules against illegal immigration, a move bound to anger conservatives just days after they helped re-elect him.
The president met privately in the Oval Office with Sen. John McCain to discuss jump-starting a stalled White House initiative that would grant legal status to millions of immigrants who broke the law to enter the United States.

Inquest, Bella_Bru, I'm sure it warmed the cockels of your hearts when the INS snatched that little brown boy down in Miami and sent him back to Fidel Castro. I never thought I would be on this forum posting to fans of Janet Reno and Robert Byrd.
Wow, unable to deal with the realities and the consequences of illegal immigration, CBG runs to the "you are a bigot" argument.
Got news for you, CGB: I've been dating a Hispanic for over 3 years. The difference is his family came here legally. They speak English only. They have all worked their asses off and paid their taxes. They actually contribute to our economy. They do not send all their money back to Mexico. None of them have had more kids than they can afford. And they use the bad 'w' word in regards to Mexicans who are here illegally and not giving anything back to the system they use all the time.
I feel stabbed in the back.
I voted for Bush and I am not going to give him a pass on everything. Too bad if you don't like it.
What's your alternative plan to deal with the 5-8 million illegals already here?
How do we find these people among 40 million legally resident Hispanic residents in the border states? Roadblocks making sure everyone's "papers are in order?"
You people are big on bluster, outrage and betrayal and woefully devoid of any pro-active, politically and legally enforcable solutions.
Correction: 20 million legally resident Hispanic residents in border states.
Roll back welfare completely.
Punish employers who hire illegals.
Let the INS do it's job instead of interfering, the way Assa did in Temecula. There are solutions to keeping them out. They just might upset some.
Well then, what DO you propose that we do? Something effective, I mean. What will actually WORK?
No, the generic universal "you"... not you specifically.
Your initiatives are all fine by me, but they're not going to even begin to locate, identify and process the people already here.
Rolling back welfare ... now you're onto something. Who's giving the welfare to illegals, George W. Bush? Or local Democrats and their flunky judges?
Where the hell were all you California banshees when Judge Pfaelzer stole Prop 187 out from underneath you and Grey Davis sold you down the river? Screaming at George W. Bush in Texas?
If every non-welfared illegal currently working in America were taken accross the border, processed and given visitor work visas, and returned to their jobs and lives as before would you be happy? They are now legally here. Or, is it the fact that they are here at all that bothers you so?
For one thing, start pushing for Tancredo for '08, or someone else of similar or better qualifications who shares the same views.
The real problem is in Mexico. Fox and those in the upperclass want to dump their poor on us. We let them. Why is Bush in such a rush to be Vicente's 'buddy'?
Where the hell were all you California banshees when Judge Pfaelzer stole Prop 187 out from underneath you and Grey Davis sold you down the river? Screaming at George W. Bush in Texas?
The conservatives who were fighting to save Prop 187 were also being forced to fight the moderate Republicans who told them they were hurting other Republicans chances of getting Senate and Congressional seats by continuing their fight.
Or, is it the fact that they are here at all that bothers you so?
Anyone, no matter where they are from, living off of my tax dolloars, not putting anyting back into the economy, etc., disgusts me.
I noticed you did not touch the suggestion of punishing employers who hire illegals. Can't hurt those contractors, can we?
I don't know where you live, but come see L.A.. You will see more Mexican flags flying in peoples yards then American.
I don't care. If you don't like the Mexican cultural influence, move from Los Angeles. I wouldn't hang in Ogden or Salt Lake City if I didn't like Mormons, or Miami if Cuban culture irked me. It's that simple.
Let's see you laugh when they begin to vote and it's democrat election after democrat election.
Once again you ignore the suggestion of punishing employers. Hit a little too close to home?
Its obvious you don't know the whole story since you wouldn't answer my question and you've changed the subject to term limits.
Here is a bit of history on the subject.
Have fun reading it.
