President Bush yesterday moved aggressively to resurrect his plan to relax rules against illegal immigration, a move bound to anger conservatives just days after they helped re-elect him.
The president met privately in the Oval Office with Sen. John McCain to discuss jump-starting a stalled White House initiative that would grant legal status to millions of immigrants who broke the law to enter the United States.

For every one seeking a better life, there are two sleeping off a hangover on your doorstep, beside a puddle of piss and on good day a chooped loaf of excrement. 100,000 gang-graffiti tags, and about 400 killing in this ONE CITY ALONE by gangs of illegal mexians every year. 9/11 is repeated every year times ten, except we just interpret it differently.
Yeah, yeah, we've all heard the "better life" theory.
Then, there's those of us with some life experience behind it and see how the system really works.
You can walk past most any liquior store around here and buy food stamps for 50 cents on the dollar so that the seller can buy some cervasa. Those transit tokens so generously given out by taxpayers can also by bought for 75 cents on the dollar from the Mexicans hanging around the bus and subway stops.
And forget the fact that you can hardly communicate with half the people. 5 year olds can learn english, but Mexicans who have been here for 10 years can't. Hey, i'm only forming opinions based on what I see.

Would a guest worker policy work if one was set up that would make the employer responsible for the employees if they hire out of Mexico? The enforcement may be the problem as now.

Look, Proposition 200 just passed in Arizona. It strengthened laws forbidding illegals from applying for welfare benefits, registering to vote, or from voting. Idiots like you screamed "xenophobia!" and "racist!" and other such crap yet nearly 50% of the voting latino community voted for the Proposition. They LIVE in Arizona where they see first hand the terrible effects that ILLEGAL aliens are having on us. They know! Are you going to call THEM racist too!?
This isn't about race or "xenophobia" - it is about being a nation that puts AMERICANS FIRST!

Powell is only carrying out Bush's Open Borders agenda which he probably agrees with anyway. If Powell resigns he will be replaced by another like-minded Open Borders Stooge.
He wants the FTAA. Mexico won't sign it unless there is an utterly open border and no restrictions on movement of people into the USA.
A number of them have become my friends. They're working in Arizona to keep it from happening here.

He focused on this WELL BEFORE the election, and you're right, he didn't touch it in the last 9 months or so. He know it was unpopular. He knew it was against the will of the people.
But I knew his intentions. I have a memory which lasts longer than 90 seconds.
And you should have known his intentions as well. He shouldn't have to tell you every day. Once was quite sufficient.
Completely with you there, and for that matter, any "foreigner" who wants to come here to better their lives.
What you are leaving out, is that these "illegals" (no matter what persuasion they are) aren't' committing the one crime as you state.
Possession of forged documents and identity theft in order to work, aren't exactly benign crimes.
In addition, many aren't against what you claim (prejudice against Mexicans). Much of the problem, is having to support them in the manner of welfare, (non-emergency) medical care, education, and now in some states college tuition.
You might want to ask around to those who are legal residents, and/or recent US Citizens how hard they had to work to get to where they are today, and how fair it is to them before you start pointing bigotry finger around screaming racism.
Yes, I remember him talking about it BEFORE the campaign. I remember how harshly it went over among conservatives. I even organized a protest against his and my district's congressman's (RINO Jim Kolbe) plan to reward illegal aliens with amnesty and jobs. Kolbe didn't shut up about his amnesty plan, but Bush sure did. I guess I hoped that he was going to leave it alone seeing how unpopular it was. And we need to show him AGAIN how unpopular the plan is so that he'll drop it again - this time for good!
The Amnesty program seems to be at the top of the list of "Things to do in Second Term".
My congressman, Elton Gallegly, will fight tooth and nail against this...God bless him!!

And the "one law" he refers to is FEDERAL IMMIGRATION LAW for crying out loud. It's not a parking ticket.

If he wants all immigration laws struck from the books, he should say so. That would be a valid position (though I would disagree) But arguing against enforcing the ones that exist seems pretty silly.
Either enforce them, or get rid of them.

Similiar complaints could be found in the italian slums, the jewish ghettos, the irish slums and the russian slums of NY, during the heyday of those immigration waves.
Plus cities, for all their good things, are also a breeding ground for the worst of humanity. I am reading a book right now on John Adams. Listen to the way the mob/rabble of Boston is described, and there ain't alot of difference.
Central LA is a war zone (never lived there, but been there). Take away every lowlife spic who lives there and another wave of human detritus from another ethnic group will take its place. Its called a "city"
I am not some reborn Rousseau, now arguing for the "noble Latino" instead the noble savage, either. Latinos have cultural elements which are annoying, despicable, criminal,deplorable, and intolerable. But then again, so does every cultural group.
Most of your complaints come from the fact that cities are magnets for the offal in society and that our social giveaway programs are exploited by latinos. No argument there. at least 3000 years of civilized society has not figured out an answer to the first problem, and the second problem applies equally to white trailer trash from my native North Alabama, to black welfare victims, to the disasterouse welfare plantations we call "reservations" to any ethnic group who figures out that something is "Free."
That is a government policy problem, not a latino problem.

I guess you can go the Congress route, but one would be hard pressed to find a reason that the President need give a rat's ass about his base anymore. He just got a mandate. Didn't you hear?
Spiff, the only thing I heard him say in hint of the issue, was during the 3rd debate, when he was talking about the guest worker program. I don't recall hearing about the "full amnesty" idea either, but could be wrong.
When I heard it, I was standing outside of Bank One Ballpark, where he got a resounding BOOOOOOOO from the crowd, as we were standing in line when he mentioned the guest worker plan. I might have missed the amnesty topic over the booos.
The problem is not with people working.
The problem is with people driving junkpiles with no insurance, committing crimes, using emergency rooms as their personal doctors, getting "free" food, housing, transportaion, education, you name it - at our expense.
Willing workers we need - willing parasites we do not need. The companies who are using my tax dollars to subsidize their low wages are STEALING from me.
