DALLAS -- Six men, dressed in black fatigues with the word "Police" stenciled on the backs of the shirts, stormed a house in Southeast Dallas Tuesday morning at about 10:30, according to police. The men reportedly were armed with automatic weapons, broke windows and terrorized the family living in the 9400 block of Bermuda Road.
Witnesses said the men spoke English and Spanish. They shouted, "Policia," or police, and manhandled the family's patriarch. Two of the men used weapons to assault Maria Lopez (pictured, left), who tried to protect her 3-week-old infant.
"Well, the female, she was pretty much assaulted with a gun," Officer Y.M. Abrom said. "With one of the AK-47s. She was pistol-whipped to the face."
The men reportedly were looking for marijuana at the house, which also serves as a welding business. They failed to find any drugs at the location, and moved on to a vacant house on the same street.
There, they allegedly accosted five construction workers. The contractors were forced to the ground, and the robbers took the workers' wallets. The suspects fled in two vehicles.
Lopez received stitches at an area hospital.
Investigators called the suspects "take-over bandit copycats," referring to a recent case involving robbers armed with automatic weapons who stormed businesses.
In other words, a philosophically inbred group.
Sorry, if you can't explain it to the people (not just to experts) then you have no business claiming to be carrying on the business of the people.
If it were me, I'd encrypt. If they can't decode the disk they can't find squat.
Is there an expert around?
Just this "citizens review board with a 'GOOD' understanding" (i.e. that would pretty much have to be ex police)
Law enforcement experience might be beneficial but not necessary. There are plenty of people who are capable of looking at a situation and circumstances and make reasoned determinations.
And finding these people would of course be a matter of their passing an interview with the police.
They should be able to get, say, the town librarian and explain it well enough to him or her.
We have citizen review boards here (we don't have SWAT cameras) and they aren't appointed by the police. Strange how that works isn't it.
It's time for me to turn in, and don't worry, I won't dream of the police or SWAT. I don't think about them much at all really. I sure hope you're not prone to nightmares though.
I never said appointed, I said passed. Surely they are very pro-active in whatever way they can in deflecting what they would deem to be oddballs. Political pressure, recommendations, etc. Heaven forbid they get John Q. Random Juror.
like the SWAT camera idea
Much of the distrust of our LEOs could be eliminated with more openness.
Unfortunately, just as there are some people who automatically distrust the police, there are some police officers that automatically distrust the people, they see us as civilians, its US vs. them. These officers will view the cameras as spying on the cops.
Darn I hated being referred to as a civilian while in collage I had just retired from the Army and thought of my classmates - cops - as civilians.
Stay safe Ping!
This discussion shows the dichotomy between living in a peaceful rural area and a city.
Yes, but it would be a very rare phenomenon to have more than one camera malfunction.
Good idea. Appreciate the advice, as well as the hypothetical. Truth is, I don't know what I'd do in a similar situation. What you did, datura, amazes me. I don't know if I would've let them go as you did. Do you wonder if they would just move on to another target? I guess your thinking was that that they'd be skeered off the game? Tough call, I'm not criticizing, I'm seriously wondering here.
I live relatively near where this happened....it's on the local news, and all the crime that goes unpunished is the main reason kids can't be kids the way I was. That's sad.
CWII ping (backburner) - this is worth keeping an eye on. Another possible all-Latino invasion-robbery gang. This particular thread is demolished, but more news will likely be out soon.
Nobody is blaming anything on "the cops."
The point is, when "no knock" raids are vastly overused (as they are today) criminals will take advantage by staging copycat bogus SWAT raids.
Q. /1/ Do you deny any of the above?
Q. /2/ Do you consider my post "an attack on the police?"
I'd say the odds are better than even that the gang will turn out to be illegals. They have less than no respect for our laws or our police, they have contempt for both.
In LA a few months ago, a teenager shot a CHP in the head killing him. The cop was just standing outside of a courthouse on his "traffic court day" in full uniform. Killing the cop was just an illegal alien criminal gang initiation rite.
It just makes sense for criminal gangs to masquerade as cops on bogus SWAT raids. It's right out of the Mexican gang play book. Back home in Mexico, cops often moonlight as drug gang "enforcers," and they often wear uniforms and flash ID to gain access to their victims.
Expect to see more of this type of attack as the criminal alien invasion explodes on word of the coming Bush amnesty back in Mexico.
(No matter what Bush calls his program, back in Mexico it's called amnesty.)
Thanks for the ping... too bad is right. Home invasion on the rise - as are thread hijackings.
As we've had this talk many times Travis . You know I have made it clear to my local LEO's that if they want me to just call me and I'll come down or meet em on the lawn.......
Anything less is gonna be a blood bath.....Any door kicker at any time of the day will get a 4 Rottweiller Class III NFA Welcome......be they LEO or Leon......
Stay safe & Happy Birthday to the worlds best "gang" ....the USMC !
You're doing a lot better defending (R)len on those threads than you are on this one.
