I have to thank Jimmy Carter for saving my sanity.
Granted, his was not a presidency that one looks back to with fondness. Gas lines stretched forever, Iran took our people hostage, and there was disco.
But Carter's ex-presidency has been a model of that unofficial institution. He has built homes for the poor, mediated wars, helped feed the hungry in Africa, fought disease in Latin America. In so doing, Carter -- a deacon of Maranatha Baptist Church in Plains, Ga. -- has obeyed a directive that Jesus issued to one of his disciples.

Jimmy Carter, ally and stooge of dictators and terrorists around the globe. The worst president in American history.
As I recall, Pitts wrote some good stuff after 9/11, but as time passed he reverted to same old lib stuff.

I'll second that. Certainly the worst in my lifetime.

...and writing speeches for Yasser Arafat, and enabling North Korea to develop nuclear weapons, and providing a fig leaf for corrupt dictators all over the world, and....
Funny we both posted the same verse.
As I type this message a child is born in Iraq, Should we kill it know or wait 15 to 18 years till he becomes a terrorist. We can keep killing for years and not even put a dent in terrorism. And know the future terrorist can't even say "the American never did any thing to us". We have, we killed their fathers, brother etc. Most of the terrorist are not even fighting by choice. I can not support this not only as a christen but as a human. I can not find in the bible where is say's it's ok to kill sometimes. As far as freeing Iraq, When did the USA become the freedom police. As soon as we leave Iraq it will just go back to the way it was. The cost, a lot of young Americans and a lot of tax dollars . Mean while anyone can still get across our boarders.
Consorting? I think he's confusing him with Dick Morris.
[They should be busy trying to find the verses in the Bible that support what the Democratic party stands for.]
"Where are the people who preach -- and live -- the biblical values of inclusion, service, humility and sacrifice, and why haven't they coalesced into an alternative political force?"
[They were right there next to you, most likely in line to vote just before or after you. To cancel your vote.]
"Instead of a movement like that, we have an old peanut farmer building houses for the poor."
[Jimmy Carter might have been a horrible president but I would not belittle his work with "Habitat for Humanity" like this. Talk about bitter.]
"You wish there were Christian people shouting from the rooftops that these other people do not represent all of us."
[They shouted from the rooftops. We all heard them, and 3.5 million of them did not shout 'John Kerry', they shouted 'George Bush'.]
"And that the faith exemplified by the politics of exclusion is not the faith that the rest of us celebrate, (and) not the faith that lifts us and settles us and makes us whole."
[That seems to ring true. Democrats are the only party teaching 'exclusion'.]
"But nobody's shouting these things. It occurs to me that maybe they're all too busy building houses for poor people. And that maybe I should be as well."
[You might as well try construction, because the last 6 words of that sentence shows that you missed the basic lessons of 4th grade grammer.]
[Leonard Pitts writes for The Miami Herald and I encourage you to email his pansy a## ......pitts@herald.com]
Great minds think alike. :)
"the Bible is not a treatise on social welfare for the poor."
It is a map to find he kingdom of heaven.
Sometimes I think the left confuses Jesus with Robin Hood."
That is an excellent analogy and one I will find most useful.
Thank you.
absolutely no shame
Guess they are too busy marching for the "choice" to stick scissors in an infant's brain.
Carter has a favorite Bible verse: "Love your enemies". So he loves Castro, Bin Laden, Hussein, shall I go on?
I just find it inconceivable that anyone thinking themselves a Christian could ever support the left... mindboggling.
So she considered the overwhelming systemic torture of human beings none of her business? I bet if her next door neighbor was dipping cats into vats of acid or gouging the eyes out of tied up dogs that she would consider it her duty to intervene... but not when this brutality is inflicted on humans?

I was a Christian Leftist. I found myself moving from Christ's words to Liberation Theology to Marxism. I found that my fellow travelers had little respect for me, or anyone who was not as narrow and dogmatic as they were. An avid reader, I was reading another anti Christian rant in Z magazine...or was it the Progressive? And I realized with cold clarity that I had more in common with Jerry Falwell and the Right than I did with the Left. Thus began a slow walk Rightwards.
Christian left? Isn't that an oxymoron?
