Where is the 'Christian left'? ( WOW )
The Miami Herald ^ | Nov. 09, 2004 | Leonard Pitts

I have to thank Jimmy Carter for saving my sanity.

Granted, his was not a presidency that one looks back to with fondness. Gas lines stretched forever, Iran took our people hostage, and there was disco.

But Carter's ex-presidency has been a model of that unofficial institution. He has built homes for the poor, mediated wars, helped feed the hungry in Africa, fought disease in Latin America. In so doing, Carter -- a deacon of Maranatha Baptist Church in Plains, Ga. -- has obeyed a directive that Jesus issued to one of his disciples.

I wish the left would quit acting like they really study the words of Jesus. They somehow have this weird notion that Jesus was an altruist, pacifist, and weakling kind of guy.

Fine. He should have been a disciple, not a president.

They have coalesced, but they have coalesced into the republican party seeing nothing but madness in the Demorats.

Remembering Carter's example, his public embrace of that command, is what has gotten me through the past week without a facial tic. Or to put it another way: If one more person tells me that "morality" guided their decision to vote for President Bush, my head's going to pop like a balloon.

I like disco. It's one thing Carter has going for himself in my book.

Just because Jimmy Carter CLAIMS to be a Christian does not mean he is.

The fruits of his labor are evil.

Oy vey! Mr. Carter didn't do these things by his own sweet self . . . he USED the government. Mr. Pitts still doesn't get it! Jesus didn't say to have your government do these things, but we are to, as individuals, go out and do these things. Mr. Carter's work cannot be considered true Christian philanthropy.

This guy has confused Jesus' kind treatment of prostitutes, beggars, etc as condoning their behavior.

I get so sick of people who have no use for the Scriptures citing them to support their humanist philosophy.Lets be clear about it,the Bible is Gods word to man.It is a historical, intsructive essay of God`s relationship with his chosen, the Jews, their rejection of the Christ and the ultimate redemption of mankind. Now anyone is free to not accept this belief but it does not change the fact that the Bible is not a treatise on social welfare for the poor.

Not directed to you, Dubya:

Because it's those of the Christian right who preach and live biblical values of inclusion, service, humility and sacrifice -- not some politically correct, watered-down, secularized false gospel in which you get to pick and choose the verses you like to fit in your man-centered worldview.

You want to follow Christ? Well then, deny yourself and take up your cross and follow him. Let the Father be your provider, not the government. Where are the people of the Christian left preaching that message?

Yeah, sure, Saint Jimmy.

Friend of dictators and terrorists. Enemy of America.

Jimmy will weep at Arafat's graveside. Cause he's a sensitive, caring kind of guy.

Two words that just don't go together: Christian and Leftist. Jimmy is a Leftist.

What's the difference between Jimmy and Jezebel? Jezebel was a woman. I could go on, but I think I have made my point.

They're too busy hiding from (mostly homosexual) child molestation investigations.

I better not become famous. That post will definitely come back to haunt me.

My head is popping out of shock at your ignorance.

I doubt that Jesus would be sending get well cards to a murderer in Cuba, Castro. It's unlikely that Jesus would advocate abortion and "gay rights" as Kerry did. And the list goes on and on .

What Carter adheres to is the Humanist Manifesto, not Christianity.

Another diatribe from the Plastic Christian Liberal Left! How can anyone accept their claim to believe in GOD!! They have drug this country through the lowest places and consorted with the lowest scum. Ready and willing to sell us out to our enemies, in exchange for power over the rest of us.

They are to STUPID to see the error of their ways. Admit that the path they wanted to take us was the path of our own destruction. What fools these are!
