It may be that Dewhurst would lock up the Republican nomination before a serious contest could materialize. That's essentially what Phil Gramm did 20 years ago.
CA Republicans cannot seem to find anyone to run for much of anything, as the state is so gerrymandered, but that wouldn't matter for a statewide race. Notice the "R" counties in CA are much, much larger geographically than the "D" blue counties.
Bingaman unseated a former astronaut, Harrison Schmitt, in the Democrat year of 1982. He is never vulnerable though no one can explain his appeal to the typical NM voter.
For Mass., think Ambassador Ray Flynn...
Well, Bingaman does have his witches in Sedona.......
Katherine Harris would beat Nelson. Good idea!

* Chafee would win reelection easily as a Democrat, should he defect to that party.
** Assumes that opponent is deceased, like many Democratic voters in this state. Senator Talent likely would win against any living Democratic opponent.
I was wondering the other day what state Schilling is from. Would love to see him run for office.
He hedged his bets, IIRC.
Are you kidding me?
Excellent post!
Of cirrosis.
"Rudy will not be on the top of the GOP ticket in '08. The Republican Presidential candidate will almost certainly be a governor from the Old South."
As opposed to the New South?

In 2006, all 435 seats in the United States House of Representatives will be up for grabs.
California falling into the Pacific Ocean is the only thing that will break Democratic control of California...
