Dan Rather loses it (Free Republic Mentioned)
Canada Free Press ^ | November 5, 2004 | Arthur Weinreb

Posted on 11/05/2004 6:50:38 AM PST by AmericanMade1776

Dan Rather, the CBS anchor who is well past his sell-by date, was verging on losing it in the early morning hours of November 3. Ed Bradley had carried out a mathematical calculation that showed that George W. Bush needed only to obtain 15 per cent of Ohio’s absentee and provisional ballots to win the state and the presidency. A visibly upset Rather then came out with one of his famous Danisms--just because a chicken has wings, doesn’t mean it can fly.

In a poignant comment, Bradley defended himself by saying that he wasn’t making the math up--the figures came from Republicans in Ohio. This is what the mainstream media has degenerated into--a journalist forced to admit that he’s reporting something and not making it up.

The Dan just couldn’t bring himself to consider the possibility that George W. Bush could win Ohio and a second term. And when Rather next called upon Bradley, he introduced him as “Ed Bradley who is not a mathematics professor”. Bradley then piped up that he did in fact teach math at one point in his life.

What about Tet? Tet was about the biggest journalistic, systemic act of treason in the history of the nation. And now, if they don't like something they just don't report it. This is something of a new game I think... at least when it's to the extent that a sitting president can't get his message out in a bitter re-election campaign.

"It was really rather pitiful. I laughed at him for a minute or two, then went to bed, happy."

It is really against my nature to laugh at other people's pain, but I will make an exception for Dan and the rest of the RATs who, determined to win at any cost, think nothing of dragging the entire country through the mud, leveling false accusations at honorable men and fabricating "evidence" to support their claims, actively supressing any effort to get the truth out and then having the gall to proclaim themselves champions of free speech and purveyors of knowledge. They think their ends justify any means. These people deserve to be mocked mercilessly. Their pernicious pomposity is only rivaled by their fragile egos.

Late that night it really looked like Ed Bradley was a man trying to talk someone down off the railing of a bridge.

<< Just because Dan is full of it, doesn't mean he knows $hit. >>

He's so full of that, that his eyes already turned brown.

Dan Rather is long overdue for retirement. I agree that with him will go the alphhabet stronghold on the news. May he sail off into the sunset with Walter Conkrite. The news will be NEWs and not opinion from now on.

I hereby make a suggestion to all Freepers...from now on, maybe we shouldn't call them "news reporters"...how about "news distorters"?

What I love about this is that Dan Rather did not know enough about the background of a reporter who has been at CBS for years working closely with Rather in particular. Before going into reporting, he taught math.

Rather didn't know that and obviously was caught by surprise.

It shows how little Rather is interested in getting to know his co-workers.

It shows his folksy ways on tv are fake (not that we actually believed him).

Anyone who's seen a picture of a rooster on top of a coop ought to be able to figure it out, though.

Another government program?

I ws watching SeeBS a lot on election night to enjoy seeing dan self-destruct. I saw he exchange between dan and bradley, and it was even more hysterical that the story implies. When Bradley pointed out (reluctantly) that there was no way kerry could take Ohio, dan berated bradley over and over again. He practically called him a "dumb nigger"! Bradley rightly got pissed, and it was a hoot to watch.

Rather still thinks he is relevant and he thinks the Internet is irrelevant. He doesn't realize that the average
guy now has a voice and the news is no longer the province of the "mainstream media". After the Bush National guard fiasco on CBS I thought they might get it but the election coverage proved me wrong. Dan just couldn't contain himself when he had the National Guard story, "boy I,ve got the goods on Bush this time" but what he had was a hand grenade with the pin pulled. Way to go Dan keep up the good work!

Instead of going out in style to end an illustrious career, Dan Rather is going out and down in flames. I guess he never got over the tongue lashing he received from Papa Bush back in 1988, and he sought to get over on the son. It failed thanks in large part to the people here on this board. It was funny to watch Dan get so flustered early Wednesday morning when it was becoming apparent that the President was going to carry Ohio and be reelected. All that work to bring down a President and it failed. Also, the credibility of the entire MSM took a severe hit in the eyes of most Americans. I don't know which I feel better about- the defeat of Kerry or the defeat of the MSM. On second thought I'm enjoying both events with equal joy.
