Did they say that the Republicans that sit on the judiciary committee will vote on who will be the chairman of the committee?

Yes, I watched it. I've never liked Spectre but it's very apparent that the press misquoted him and most folks bought it. It also seems that Spectre has been had a "refresher course" on his duties and responsibilities.

I was thinking that I don't know how people can sound so boring when they speak like he speaks.

Hmmmmmm! Methinks that the DUM-o-cRAT would have been a better choice--at least the enemy would have been obvious. As Dan Blather might say: "With friends like this, who needs enemies!"

he is a deceptive LIAR - he's been saying this for weeks leading up to the election, just not now, afterwards.

Yeah They said Frist called him in for a tongue lashing. Then he came out and "clarified" his remarks. brit tried to cover for him. His reporter said that he had looked at the original remark and it looked like the MSM was trying to creat a story.

I don't trust Spectre (not sp)

I think I don't trust him, regardless of what he says.

Misquoted or not, and I don't think he was, Specter is not the right choice to chair the Judiciary Committee.

There are several real conservatives on that committee to choose from. We need muscle not a RINO like Specter.

How? How was he misquoted? Since most of us didn't see it, could you do what the original poster failed to do, and actually report something?

Mark Lavin is talking about it right now on the radio--that he (Specter) is backing down from the statement!

Specter ought to be bounced for the sheer arrogance and/or stupidity of saying anything anti-Bush at this moment. What was he doing, puffing out his chest? Forget context. He said what he said. You can't now say, "Well, that's what I said... but, uh...what I meant was..." A certain Senator who wanted to be president just found out that tactic doesn't work.

Specter needs to be neutered... now.

The control of the Federal Judiciary is the most important result of the election. NRO is going to lead (I hope) a move to implore the Republican Senate to deny Spector the Judiciary Chair. He will stand in the way of our getting values based judges on the bench. To see what we have now all you need to do is go to www.underneaththeirrobes.blogs.com and scroll down to the story on Judge Susan Dlott. She is the Judge in Ohio that issued on monday the order that no voter challengers could be used by the parties despite what Ohio law said,. Luckily she was promptly reversed on appeal that afternoon. But look at the story to see what we are dealing with.

Read the transcript of the comments in question. Read, also, comments Specter has made previously. The press was actually being kind to Specter in the way they framed what he said.

Isn't it time we faced the fact that Specter is just not one of us?

Why the hell is he in the GOP? He'd be much more comfortable across the aisle.

I'm thinking he shouldn't be on the Judiciary committee, let alone chairing it. He must be reassigned to a committe where he can't obstruct what the majority of Republicans want to see accomplished.
