Don't know.
The original graphic was extracted from a PDF file touted as "final tally".
I'll be happy to edit it if further info comes in.

When and how did this absurd color scheme become accepted by conservative Americans??? Does RED not stand for Communism??? The colors on this map should be reversed !!!

Alaska reports by election districts. I believe AK has 40 districts. Just one of them, Juneau, went blue in '00.

Texas Salutes all of you red states.. even those dabs of red in the coastal areas.....
God Bless you... Texans knew W was a man of Leadership. WE wanted you all to know what we knew. He did work with Dems here in Texas... but the Dems in Washington are too much in bed with the MSM and lobby groups.
W has reached out... it is up to Nancy Hate the world, now the new Tom Daschal, to do something. Any of the Jumping Jeffers types... have no souls.. they are being bought off and they do not understand loyality, honor and leadership.

It sorely hurts my Texas pride...
We only gave the President a 23% margin of victory here...;)

What's taking Cook Co., IL, Burlington Co., NJ and Miami-Dade Co., FL so long to finalize returns this time?

It used to be reversed. When Carter beat Ford, all the GOP states on the TV networks were blue and Carter red.
It changed sometime after Reagan, maybe with Bush 1. I thought it was nuts the first time I saw it. Why change GOP from blue to red, unless the Dems hated the red analogy.
To: Salamander
I'm sorry to say the "Arrowhead" region of Minnesota
is as blue as their noses in winter.

"Reagan red", the color of courage and the blood of patriots.
Let's take back the color like we took back the country...:)
[and I'm rather partial to red, naturally]...LOL!

When and how did this absurd color scheme become accepted by conservative Americans??? Well, it first showed up in 2000 in USAToday.
Their colors - not much we, the public, can do about it.
I can tell you why those colors, though - has nothing to do with Communism.
Friendlies are always colored blue, while the aggressor (enemy) is always colored red.
The original map colors merely reflect their bias.

If only California were not "winner take all" we'd be a real factor in presidential elections. NOT TRUE...The fact that California is an automatic baseline of 55 for the Democrats is what makes it a player--by changing the calculation for the rest of the country. If California were not winner-take-all, it would be virtually impossible for Dems to win the presidency.
Start working on it.
