In Day One we established the need to remove Specter from the Judiciary. To sum it up:
1. Specter is in line to become Chairman of the Judiciary.
2. Specter yesterday showed he expects to obstruct Bush in nominating conservative judges.
3. Specters vision of a balance court is the exact same rhetoric of Senator Kerry.
4. Specter will do whatever it takes to see the courts do not become conservative. Read his books.
5. Specter is a huge proponent of Rov v. Wade.
6. Specter was not elected President, but has threatened the President should he nominate conservative judges.
7. As Chairman, Specter has the power to kill Bushs judicial nominations.
Now in Day 2, we must take action. Todays goal is to create some BUZZ. We need to contact the conservative media, like Rush and Hannity and other radio talk shows. Contact FoxNews, Brit Hume, Tony Snow. Heres an example:
Senator Specters remarks yesterday concerning Bushs judicial appointments were disturbing. If nothing is done, Senator Specter is in line to be Chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee. We need a Chairman who supports our President and his judicial nominations in that position, not someone who is on record as wanting to obstruct the Presidents judical appointments. This is a very critical position, and allowing Specter to become chairman would be no different than appointing Senator Kennedy. Specters vision of the court is 180 degrees off of President Bushs. President Bush will have a difficult time enough getting appointments through, but it would be an insult if the biggest obstruction is getting past one liberal GOP Senator, especially one who Bush helped.
Also, provide them with links to yesterdayss story, Specter warns Bush on high court nominations or the same story posted here on FreeRepublic, Specter warns Bush on high court nominations
We must not allow this back-stabbing liberal to veto President Bushs victory.
Keep me posted. I'd be glad to help in any way I can. :)
Why, because Rush's conspiracy theory of a planted story corroborated by the "Blade" article that says the same amount of homosexuals voted for Bush this year as last year makes it not true? He's had a few too many adult beverages. He's trying to do exactly what you are trying to do, spin they truth.
It was the Mass Supreme Court that won the election for us and there's no doubt about it. You might have priorities higher than abortion and homosexual marriage on your list but that just puts you out of the main stream.
Well said.
"If the GOP allows Specter to continue Daschle's work of blocking conservative judge nominees, there will be trouble from the party's base"
THERE DARNED WELL BETTER BE TROUBLE. LOOK AT WHAT JUST HAPPENED TUESDAY NIGHT FOLKS AND DON'T FORGET IT SOON. THERE IS NO NEED FOR SPINELESS REPUBLICANISM ANYMORE.
called my Senators yesterday (shelby and sessions)
What happens now doesn't really matter, only if this story gets legs should we then change the subject.
No one is charging off of a cliff. Specter made a questionable statement yesterday to the San Francisco Chronicle and he's made such statements in the past. Some of us believe that this demonstrates a pattern and that there is a strong possibility that he will prove to be an obstacle to the confirmation of conservative, pro-life Federal Judges and Supreme Court Justices. Because of that concern some of us are contact Sen. Bill Frist and others (I recommend Jon Kyl) who may have an affect upon whether Specter is appointed as Chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee.
It is apparent that our efforts are starting to cause Specter some concern as to whether he will, in fact, be appointed. He's gone into damage control mode. Despite his desperate attempts, he won't be able to cover up all of his statements and record on this issue. Again, the San Francisco Chronicle interview does not constitute the entirety of Specters history on this. I will say, however, that he did finally vote to recommend Pryor. That is something to be considered in his favor. However, these statements cause me enough concern that I would not want him to serve as Senate Judiciary Chair - he needs another committee assignment somewhere else.
Again, the statements made by Specter to the San Francisco Chronicle do not constitute the entirety of his record on this issue!! Please read along.
Similar statements have been reported in the past. This is NOT the first time this has been brought up. This is not the first time that it has been mentioned that he is next in line to become Senate Judiciary Chairman. The SF Chron published the story because Specter had just said what he said. Should they have waited a week or two so that you wouldn't be suspicious?
We're not trying to destroy the nutcase. We just don't want him in the sensitive position (especially after 4 years of Daschle's and Kennedy's judicial obstruction) of Chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee with enough power to further obstruct or affect Bush's judicial nominees.
Bush won a clear mandate in this election - a clearly conservative, pro-life mandate, and we expect to gain from that victory. WE WILL HAVE CONSERVATIVE, PRO-LIFE JUSTICES AND FEDERAL JUDGES APPOINTED and no damned Scottish law spouting RINO is going to stand in the way of that!!! Give him chairmanship of some other committee, but don't let him anywhere near the chairmanship of the Judiciary Committee.
Just e-mailed Frist!
"Spectar and McCain might still be recoverable < /wishfulthinking>" FORGET IT! You are not going to "recover" Specter. You can't "recover" something you never had. Specter used his position to stop the Supreme Court appointment of Judge Bork and he is totally sold out to the liberal unions and abortion industry.
There was a better chance of "recovering" John Kerry. We cannot afford having Specter heading up the Judiciary Committee. Stop him now....or forever be sorry!
What do you all make of Bush's statement that he believes he has a lot of newly found political capital and is ready to use it?
I'm not so sure about your approach. There is a revolution occurring. To be caught in the middle of it could be suicide. Nothing wrong withoverturning Roe V Wade.
The secretary told me they had been getting a lot of calls opposing Specter, but there was nothing that Frist could do. The Rules of the Senate...blahblahblah...
Yes, exactly why did Bush support the RINO Spcecer and not Toomey?
