I'm 34 years old, and I'm a Marine brat who served in the Corps too. My dad was in Vietnam and I think we need to give this "Welcome Home" to our military dad and moms.
My dad is such a boy scout of integrity and Honor. He served 24 years in the US Marine Corps and is happily retired. He's the type of Irish-American patriot who was so willing to drop out of college and volunteer as an enlisted grunt. Instead, the USMC recruiter told him to finish college and become an officer.
He served in a less "glorious" capacity but one that supported Marines none the less. He continued with the Marines even after Vietnam and through our American military's darker days of race riots and rampant substance abuse. Long after the Soviet Union had given up the Cold War, he retired having served his full capacity to our nation. And in keeping with his high moral and ethical standards, upon his retirement ceremony, he told his CO (commanding officer) that he'd walk out of his own retirement if Clinton's presidential congradulatory letter were read in public.
What I mention for Vietnam Vets is not to be smug in having Bush win a big Presidency again. But I want us to celibrate our victorious American political process and bring closure upon such an undeserving wicked wound that has been used against us. It was a wound taken advantage by our enemies, foreign and domestic. This should never happen to our nation and our honorable vets ever again.
What I want is for us to openly celebrate the 4th Commandment that we've neglected too long. I see the greatness of Vietnam Veterans as no less their World War 2 and Korean Vet fathers and mothers. The generation gap must be closed and this opportinuty will mend this difference.
If you agree as I do, then let's bring this to a reality.
God Bless you all. Joe
I couldn't agree more. It's time to honor our Viet Nam vets. We owe a huge debt of gratitude to these Vets and the brave SBVs who put their reputations on the line.
I agree. It is time to formally honor those that served then with honor and did not later turn on their country.
Kerry says he wants to bring Americans together. Well, he can start by apologizing for his actions after leaving Vietnam. Don't count on it happening though.
However, thank God for men like your father....and you!
Could not agree more.
YES, YES, YES. Someone just needs to spearhead this and tell us what we need to do to make it happen. We'll be waiting for a game plan.
lets freep the president@whitehouse.gov
Just copy the letter into your email and send it along with your address and phone number info. And a note suggesting that this is an honor long overdue to vietnam veterans of america.
Actually, I posted this on another thread this morning, but I think we need to set an entire day aside to honor our Vietnam vets with the homecoming they should have received 40 years ago.
I'm talking memorial services, big parades in major cities, the whole nine yards.
With all the wounds that were reopened during this campaign, there's no time like this year to show our VN vets how much we appreciate their service during the war, over the years, and especially in this election.
I was thinking some day in April, May or June - a time where the weather is appropriate, and we can focus all our attention solely on the VN vets, rather than trying to piggyback on Memorial Day or Independence Day.
It would be great if the administration would buy into it.
YES!
Absolutely great idea!
Also, take a look at the OPEN LETTER TO JOHN KERRY at
http://www.vetsforbush.net/OPEN-LTR-KERRY.pdf
Best regards!
May God continue to love your Dad and thank him from a compatriot!
They certainly should be honored, but I am just not sure the inauguration would be a good time to do it.
Just my two cents.
What a wonderful idea......I would love to see it and support it all the way. It really is time to bring them home.......
"They certainly should be honored, but I am just not sure the inauguration would be a good time to do it"
Without their adds and everyone that contributed to them Skerry would have been elected!
They not only should be there but given a place of prominance and acknowledged for their valient effort.
Take a well deserved bow, gentlemen.
I was just thinking something similar but what I'd like to see is the Vietnam Vets getting their own parade -- the one they did not get 32 years ago. I mean the full blown thing in like a ticker tape parade in NYC or Washington DC.
i agree they have a spot
god bless them
