I have been gently reminded that a politician will break your heart. And Lord knows, I've had my heart broken more times than I care to remember. So, many of us are hoping. No, we are praying that Sen. Barack Obama will prove to be a new breed of politician.
We've had our fill of charlatans. They steal your heart with their charisma only to betray you with their chicanery.
As only the third African American to go to the U.S. Senate since Reconstruction, we know Obama will go to Washington carrying a heavy burden. He will not just be the Illinois senator representing a diverse population, he will be the only man in the Senate that African Americans can look to as one of their own.
Born to a woman from Kansas and a man from Kenya, Obama never ran from his black ancestry. We loved him for that.
He and his wife, Michelle, and their two children, represent an image seen too seldom in the national spotlight -- an intact, loving, black family.
As one of my single sisters put it, it wasn't Obama's electrifying speech at the Democratic National Convention that moved her.
It was the image of the coffee complexioned, smartly dressed Michelle Obama on the platform, at his side waving at the crowd.
Brown sugar sister
Black women needed that moment. That this Harvard-educated biracial man, who was raised in a white family, chose a brown sugar sister to marry gave black women all over this country a boost.
The Obamas are now the African-American First Family.

If the Dems had a clue, Evan Bahye would be their man. This Obama is a complete stiff.
Wow, talk about deifying somebody. That hack wasted no time....
If Obama was Republican, they would call him an Uncle Tom
If Obama was Republican, they would call him an Uncle Tom
This is why liberals are failing nationally. They swallow such utter gobbledygook.
If Obama was true to himself he wouldn't be a DemonRat.
My prediction for the 2008 "Demoncratic" ticket:
PIAPS & Obama
The shining hope for the Democratic party has no record. Typical...
You are correct - if Obama were a Republican (see Condi Rice & Colin Powell), Mary Mitchell would whine about how he was trying to look and act white and that he was an Uncle Tom.
I live in Chicago and there has been ZERO discussion of Obama's views and record. And I mean ZERO. The Chicago media got him elected. This guy is an extreme left-winger who is against Iraq, against tax cuts, for partial-birth abortion, for affirmative action, etc. And is completely out of the mainstream of American and the continuing Republican tide in the US. But he fits perfectly here in Illinois, which has become the Berkeley and Boston of the midwest. BARF.
You are correct and I will call him a islamic mole.
This is the ONE bright spot in the Democrat's dismal 2004 campaign. He'll be wined and dined for months, even years, without doing ANYTHING more than winning yesterday.
So has America, ma'am. Why you keep putting them up as your Presidential Candidates is beyond me.

And Mary, what if the reason he chose this brown sugar sister was to further his political ambitions? What then? What if Baracka Obama realized that without a black wife, his ability to tap into the quasi-literal inner city vote would be seriously diminished? Hmmm?
Perhaps, just perhaps, you should entertain the idea that there are factors beyond "tint" that influence successful men to pursue and marry the women they are with. If fewer African-American women made spectacles of themselves on Jerry Springer, perhaps they would be more successful at attracting husbands of all backgrounds.
We hear!! We hear!! Obama reminds me of Damien Thorne the Antichrist.
I suppose that explains why he made a point to thank his pastor during his victory speech last night.
You've got to be kidding about Jerry Springer.
This is a woman with issues!
These people are constantly looking for a Pied Piper to lead them. No matter if it's someone inexperienced and has no real track record. They are like a mob of children looking for direction. Really a sad to be in that state of affairs. Maybe if they had a true core to their party they would be able to find their own way.
