Do they still have their "call to action" threads going where they were threatening to all drive to Ohio and riot and "kick some freeper ass"?

Democrats MUST Take back "Values" |
|
Edited on Wed Nov-03-04 05:53 PM by liberalpragmatist

Clearly, we can't move to the right socially. What we are going to have to do is stress "true compassion" and "true American values." True compassion means zealously arguing the American-ness of tolerance and acceptance. True American values means stressing patriotism, individual liberty, and fairness - those are the values that fueled the American Revolution.
Basically, what I'm saying is that we can't win unless we make a dent in those voting on morals and values. We should continue to be tolerant to religion, but realistically, we're not going to take a majority of evangelical votes b/c we don't have that cultural intolernace. We can't abandon our positions on gay rights, civil rights, women's rights. What we need therefore is to stress Patriotism and American-ness. I know it sounds jingoistic, but reclaiming the flag for the left could go a long way to winning over independents and at least enough "values"-oriented voters to win. |

4. You mean we must become hypocrites? Like the RW funddies. |
|
|
They "use" values. Look at their lives and what they do and how they treat other people. They are not Chrisitians. They accept a liar in the WH, cheating, corporate thieves, baby killers (as long as they don't kill fetuses), they don't love their neighbors only if they look like them. These are the people who not long ago were supporting the killers of little girls in a church for God's sake. What do you mean we must take back "values." We never gave them up!

5. But nobody believes us |
|
|
Of course we're more moral about the other side! What's moral about ANYTHING the right has ever done?! but that's not the point - american aren't seeing it. We have to stress how WE are the true patriots, we're the ones standing up for true american values. We aren't doing that. We're assuming people will see that for themselves, and they're not. We can't win unless we do better among people for whom "values" is the big thing. |

ONE MORE TIME: STOLEN AGAIN -- HERE ARE FACTS -- USE THEM!
Posted by politmuse1
Added to homepage Wed Nov 03rd 2004, 01:20 AM ET
I tried earlier, and no one wanted to believe it. Maybe now you do? *THE FIX IS IN.*
If we're afraid to call it as is, there's no chance we'll ever see democracy or a Democrat elected in this country every again. PLEASE WAKE UP AND SMELL THE ROSES.
Here are some facts:
(1) All exit polls had Kerry ahead in in FL and OH.
(2) All Democrats were completely confident, based (I'm sure) on internal polls. Kennedy said Kerry won. He was sure. So was the DNC chair, who referred to Kerry as president-elect.
(3) Canadian TV (CTV) said it will be an early landslide (their word) for Kerry. They had inside information.
(4) Exit polls have always been correct -- until they pulled Florida away from Gore, and Bush took power by force. Since then no exit poll has ever been any good. Coincidence?
(5) In the midterm elections, the VERY SAME thing happened as tonight. Polls nationwide favored Democrats, and then the GOP won every state -- and the exit polls vanished!!! Pollsters had never been so wrong. IT WAS THE FIRST TIME MACHINES WERE USED.
(6) We all know who owns the Diebold (Diabolical) voting machines. And it ain't the Democrats.
(5) Every historical predictor pointed to a Kerry victory: the large turnout, Bush's approval ratings, the economy, and the fact that he consistently polled under 50 or even 48%. No president had ever won with such low numbers.
And then magically everything reversed itself and Bush wins. Do you guys believe this is for real?
I don't know what we can do. But at the very least I suggest:
-- Write letters to every paper and every person you know, outlining the facts above (plus everything you can add about the electronic voting machines -- lots of info out there).
-- Write Kennedy and others who KNOW Kerry had the real vote. We need them to come forward and speak out.
-- We need strategy. We can't just go and protest and be angry. It will look like we can't accept defeat. We need to get our facts and target our message. Or else forget about this country.
Ideas? Drop me a line.

Jobs listings in Canada? |
|
|
So I checked the Canadian Immigration website and my husband and I have the employment skills on the list. Yep, we're going. We'll keep our US citizenship so we can vote, (and we will continue to vote against Repubicans) but we've had it with this place. The people here have lost their minds and worse, our democracy. (Except you all, and thanks....you have kept me sane.) We don't want to raise our beautiful daughter here. We live in a red area of California, and we don't even want to live among these people or have her go to school with them. I'm actually feeling good about it. A brand new start. We're ready. So I'm hoping there might be someone out there who has some good sites to search for jobs in Canada. (We are in the GIS field if that helps.) Also, for any Canadians: Which parts of Canada are more progressive? We sure don't want to move away from here just to end up surrounded by conservatives again. Thanks for the help.

Am I Wrong To Leave America? |
|
|
My husband and I decided that if Bush won, we would move to Europe. We didn't think he would and we poured out hearts out doing everything we could possibly do (just like all of you) to make sure it didn't happen. I haven't been to DU in so long just because every ounce of time I had was working to get Kerry elected. Losing was not an option.
But, now we are faced with the possibility of having absolutely no say in this country. All three branches of government are Republican controlled. Nothing short of taking to the street with arms will prevent them from ruining this country as they will. I don't have to run down the list of bad things that happened overnight. Is it wrong to make our plans to leave this country?
This is very painful for me and I come to DU for your guidance. I feel like I'm running away, but I also have a personal choice: raise my child (she's 6 months old now) in Bush's America with my immigrant husband (what will Ashcroft do to us?)-- or move to Europe to enjoy sticking my head in a vacuum for a couple of years to decompress and forget all about the dying, the pollution, the drilling and the stripping of women's rights.
What would you do?

No, I don't blame you for wanting to leave and I would actually recommend it in your case. If you want to keep your child safe and to grow up without stupid ideas they may get from school or whatever.
Honestly, I would move to canada or europe if I could. But I'm very poor with no job (thanks BUSH!!). So I'll be sticking around till I can at least get some money up to leave |

Call me what you will I DON'T CARE BUT |
|
|
I'm getting the hell out of Dodge. America has seen a sad day indeed. The fact that it is 10:48 a.m. Nov 3 and we do not have a winner has just proved that American Democracy is dead. We see that the house and Senate are now held by the Republicans and the White House is not even decided yet.
This is a sad day people because it showed that we learned NOTHING from the 2000 election.
Regardless of who ends up in the white house I will be leaving this country VERY disillusioned with it. The media act like childish brats wanting to pull our emotions in EVERY direction just to make their ratings soar.
I do not believe those in power will ever serve the population justly. They will say they are looking out for their best interest and most of us will either be brainwashed or will be silenced in one way or another.
I promise my husband I will stay long enough to get him out of the debt we find ourselves in then I will leave.
I don't know which country will accept me but I know I cannot leave in a country that will continue to claim to be for all people but in reality doesn't not practice what it says.
I predict that within a week of a declaring a win Bush will invade another country, and within 18 months people will see more and more rights slowly slipping away. Freedom of speech and separation of Church and state will be the next things to go. Enjoy this forum while you can.
even if Kerry somehow does pull out the win nothing will change that much.
I lost my faith in all religions several years ago and I have lost faith in this country and this world now.

This is called "trimming the fat".
I expect a nasty battle between the Deaniacs who begrudgingly accepted Kerry's transparent, non-platform and the Old Guard.
The chances of a viable candidate emerging in the next four years is slim.
On the other hand, I can't name a viable candidate for our side either (Pataki? Frist? YUCK)
