I work from home, but am so jumpy today.

Everytime the FOX gong goes off, I jump out of my skin.

City On Tactical Alert Due To Hostage Situation

POSTED: 9:14 am PST November 9, 2004
UPDATED: 9:45 am PST November 9, 2004

LOS ANGELES -- The Los Angeles Police Department put the city on tactical alert Tuesday, and evacuated the area around the Mexican Consulate General after a report of shots fired.

The Consulate PIO said the incident occurred inside the building, where witnesses said a man came into the building with a gun and held up a female cashier.

The suspect brought a female hostage outside building, and was shot by police.

LAPD took the man into custody with injuries.

The Mexican Consulate General is located at 2401 W. 6th Street in the Westlake District in Los Angeles.

Police shut down a major area surrounding MacArthur Park near the intersection of 6th and Parkview.

I work right under the flight path for Norfolk International, and we have small planes zooming in every five minutes. Sometimes I feel like I need to duck.

I tell you Velveeta, I sent Brit Hume an e-mail once; asking that Fox not use that alert tone so much.

I compared it to working at a police department.
If a nervous dispatcher kept hitting that alert tone before broadcasting;
pretty soon people would consider the alert tone as routine traffic.
