The Threat Matrix

The title refers to a daily report given to the president of the United States detailing the most serious terrorist threats against the country. To tackle those threats, the government has formed a top-notch task force to infiltrate the terror cells and cut off the danger.

"Every morning, the president receives a list of the top ten terrorist threats - this list is known as the threat matrix."

We here at FR are trying to be in conjunction with the daily reports around the world that involve threats. We try to provide a storehouse of information that takes hours of research.

"submandibular lymph node?"

The mandible is that lower movable part better know as the jaw bone. The lymph nodes are those under your chin and at the top of your neck.

"There could be a bomb in that van."

Last Friday a white van pulled up in front of my neighbor's house, a guy gets out and another car immediately pulls up next to the van, the guy gets in and off they go. The van is there all weekend. I'm in Chicago, the van is registered in a suburb. Monday, I pull up alongside of a Chicago cop and ask that he check out this van. He gives me a look, but says OK. He checks it out, writes a ticket on it since it had truck plates and it was parked on a residential street, and leaves. About an hour later my doorbell rings. It is the same cop. He starts asking questions about what I saw when the van pulled up. So I ask WHY??? He says it is registered to "Some not nice people that the FEDS are interested in." The cop called him a Gypsy. My mind immediately says "CHECHEN!" And yes, he was olive skinned with a scraggly beard.

I was out of town most of the day today and I returned home to find the van gone.

You just NEVER KNOW!

Oh, that's just great.

Normally, I'd write this off as another 'net legend or hyperbole. BUT..check out the resume of the author. This guy is in charge of some serious stuff in Congress: (ref: Google)..

"Yossef Bodansky is the Director of the Task Force on Terrorism and Unconventional Warfare of the U. S. Congress, as well as the World Terrorism Analyst with the Freeman Center for Strategic Studies (Houston TX)."

Interesting article JJ. Or should I say hair raising article.

SNIP from the article: "Bodansky reports that when the authenticity of this communique was questioned on the forum to which it was posted, a "Liwa al-Shaykhayn" identified the source on November 11 as follows: "the Al-Qaida Organization, Europe and America Branch. [The] Media Official in Charge [is] Abu-Ans al-Maghribi."

I wonder if Abu-Ans al-Maghribi is this guy (Aliases: Bashir Al-Maghribi, Abu Ilyas). The name given in the article is awfully close to the alias Abu-Ilyas al-Maghribi

Hell if we just give them lots of pencils and paper, the windbags will write themselves to death before they can harm anybody.

The downside is if we HAVE to read their crap, then they'll kill us all through boredom.

I kept falling asleep trying to read that tripe after about the tenth paragraph.

"MIM: Below is the english translation of the letter which was stuck into the body of Theo Van Gogh with knife . Beneath that letter is the one which was found on the terrorist who killed him and hoped to be shot and martyred. Today the NRC Handelsblad published an 'open letter' which the killer had written to Geert Wilders a member of the Dutch cabinet. The original text and translation are also to be found below:"

"'Suspicious item' shuts Midway Airport for two hours "

Apparently the x-ray scanner malfuntioned and brought up a training screen that showed a supposed suitcase with a hand grenade in it. They tracked down the traveller who was going through the security line at the time of the bad scan, examined his luggage, found it all to be unfounded, and reopened the terminal.

That is a most intriguing theory you've got going there Donna. Will be interesting if you find any more info on the long-lost Russian royalty.

"Chairman Kim recently got an operation"

Lobotomy? The creepy thing about this is that we are expecting high level assassinations to be connected with al qaeda. The timing is disturbing in pointing to possible collusion between al qaeda and certain powers in NK government.

Fannie Mae 9 Billion Dollars in the red will cetainly have an effect on the markets. Nations largest mortgage lender going belly up sure as hell won't build faith in a vibrant economy.

Bodansky has been around a while and IMO is someone to be listened to. Does it feel like things are heating up (again) or is it just my nerves as I have to get on an airplane Thursday morning?

I have found the most effective method for beating the market is to buy stocks when their price is low then sell them when their price is high. I've made a lot of money using this trick.

Then again, I've also found the best way to improve your golf score is to not count all your strokes.

U.S. sets the “Red Line” on the N. Korea Nuclear Issue

NOVEMBER 09, 2004 23:10
by Won-Jae Park

By quoting a high-ranking official of the U.S. government, Japan`s Yomiuri Shimbun reported yesterday that the U.S. finalized its policy to draw a limit line (“Red Line”), referring to a scenario in which North Korea transfers nuclear-related materials to a third party, and that the U.S. would take strong countermeasures “immediately” if North Korea steps over this line. The official did not explain the specific countermeasures to be taken if North Korea steps over the line, but the newspaper reported that it is understood, in fact, that the decision was a strong warning that the U.S. does not exclude the possibility of using military forces. It is the first time that a high-profile official of the George W. Bush administration commented on the limits of the Red Line concerning the North Korea nuclear issue. The Yomiuri Shimbun conveyed that the official stressed, “(North Korea) should never think that it can make the transfer,” referring to the transfer of nuclear materials to a third party. Additionally, the newspaper quoted another U.S. high-ranking official who stated, “Concerning the indication that the U.S. would not be able to exert sufficient military pressure because the U.S. has its hands tied in Iraq, Iraq is no hindrance, for the army is dispatched to that country and the U.S. will mainly cope with North Korea with its navy and air forces.”

Documents: U.S. had plan to nuke N. Korea

Seoul, South Korea, Nov. 7

(UPI) -- Newly declassified documents revealed the United States planned as recently as 1998 to drop nuclear bombs on North Korea if the country attacked South Korea.

As part of "scenario 5027," 24 F15-E bombers flew simulation missions at Seymour Johnson Air Force Base in North Carolina to drop mock nuclear bombs on a firing range between January and June 1998, the Korea Times reported Sunday.

The revelation followed claims by a South Korean lawmaker that the U.S. drew up plans to launch preemptive strikes on key targets in North Korea in 1994.

The report also came amid concerns that President George Bush will take a tougher stance with North Korea during his second term.

The declassified documents also said the U.S. had kept nuclear weaponry in South Korea until at least 1998, despite officially claiming it had withdrawn all nuclear warheads in 1991.
