NEW YORK — Final pre-election polling shows Sen. John Kerry (search) with a razor-thin edge over President George W. Bush (search) with just one day to go before Election Day.
According to a national FOX News poll released Monday, 48 percent of likely voters back Kerry, 46 percent Bush, 1 percent independent candidate Ralph Nader (search) and 5 percent are undecided.
Among registered voters Kerry leads 47 percent to 45 percent, with Nader receiving 1 percent. Results among both likely voters and registered voters are within the poll's plus or minus three-percentage point margin of error.

FOX is being pulled into the dark side of old media. They're afraid they won't maintain the lead if all the dead rise up to vote.
Read it. Fox polling techniques have several structural and methodological problems. This guy discounts Fox results. Predicts 307EV for Bush based on 5% edge in "good" national polls.
It's all about ratings now. Nothing more. You can't have ratings without a horserace. So, just fabricate one. FOX is no better in this regard than any of the other MSM.
As I said, this does not make any sense. This should be an immediate 3-5% Bush advantage.

I think Kerry will be conceding tomorrow night. Almost every poll except the "who would you vote for today" poll has Bush with a comfortable margin. That doesn't get ratings, though.

You can't seriously believe Fox is rigging the numbers for Kerry. Why in the world would it do that?
FNC is playing for ratings, and figures that it will come out a winner no matter who wins tomorrow. If Bush wins, FNC can say that it is unfair for its critics to charge them with leaning to the GOP when their own poll was the ONLY media poll to show Kerry ahead (as bogus a poll as it is, but I digress). If Kerry wins, then of course then FNC can claim to be the only media outlet accurately to predict a Kerry victory -- again, this fact helps FNC with its critics and will also ensure lively ratings for the next four years as it becomes the main national TV voice of the opposition to Kerry. And to the extent that FNC really is a GOP-leaning media outlet who wants to please its main customers -- GOPers and conservatives who have nowhere else to turn for their TV news/opinon -- this poll should scare the legions of GOPers who watch FNC to get out and vote.
The more I think about it, the more I conclude that there is method to FNC's recent madness. It is positioning itself for the post-election period in a manner best suiting its business interests, and at the same time becoming a (willing?) part of the GOP GOTV effort.
Really? Do you really think if Fox reported what you believe to be "the truth" that it would cost them viewers? (I don't.)
Instead, I would think Fox would be happy to be the only media outlet to have polled and reported a coming victory for Dubya, if that's what their polling says. Then again, perhaps they're reluctant to report Dubya having any kind of a lead, for fear that it could cause needed votes to decide to stay home.
I guess we'll find out.
I tell you, after this is all over, if everything turns out OK, and this poll is shown to be part of the MSM spin cycle for Kerry, I am disabling my satellite tuner from switching to FNC. these &*&%$ are stabbing us in the back.
Actually this is very clever on Fox News part. Making you think Bush is behind so even more supporters will turn out tomorrow. Very Clever Indeed!
Opinion Dynamics conducted the poll, not Fox. FNC is just the messenger.
Besides, it's a quasi-holiday weekend poll. Given that fact, it's a pretty good showing for Bush.
I can't believe people are getting all twisted in knots about a two-day weekend poll.
