Tonight I met a non-citizen that cares more about this country than 100 million natives

Posted on 10/31/2004 10:41:16 PM PST by WV910

As I was making phone calls at HQ tonight, I ended up talking to a lady who hails from another part of the world. The country she's from is irrelevant because I imagine she's representative of most legal immigrants. Imagine whatever country you want.

She can't vote, see, because she's not a citizen yet. But yet there she was, making calls, trying to get out the vote. Why? She said people should take responsibility for what happens in their country.

And yet there are about 100 million people who were born here that won't burn a calorie, make a decision and push a button this Tuesday.

Why is it people like her have to wait years and years when they are the embodiment of everything we consider American, while those who could care less about this country get citizenship handed to them on a silver platter by virtue of where their mother was when her water broke?

I'm not making a case for 1-2-3 immigration, I'm just lamenting a bit. Why is it those who were born here are sometimes the last to see how great we have it, and how we must do everything we can to see to it that this nation remains the greatest in the world?

As an immigrant, I'll say that it's perhaps because those who don't appreciate how great this country is have not travelled out of the country to be able to see how good they have it when compared to so many.

American citizens suck. Illegal aliens are great!

Amen. Unfortunately, of the other 50%, their brains haven't developed enough to realize that JF'n is a total fraud. So, you see, it actually has an effect on about 75%.

I believe most immigrants vote their bellies. Not all, certainly, but a majority do.

Visit a veterans' cemetary some day and see how many surnames are Hispanic.

Because the country was always HERE, they didn't have to do anything to get it, attain it--they just lucked into it. You don't feel like you have to work for oxygen, for example, it's just always there--same thing. You know that no matter what you do it always WILL be here. Admit it, most of us thing the same thing.

People from other countries look to this one as a way up; people born here just take it for granted that they're already in The Place, and always will be.

You don't know what you got until it's gone. Works for both love and national sovereignty.

Thanks for sharing the story.

Immigrants, like that lady, like Arnold, and many others really appreciate this country, because they have seen what it's like in other places and they know that this is the greatest country on earth.

And Miss A. Pie, you are very much mistaken, that most immigrants "vote their bellies". Immigrants appreciate freedom, NOT the material things, because many didn't have it in their native countries, and appreciate it, while many Americans were born into it, so they take things for granted.

I have known and know people who were quite well off, had everything in a communist country, including high academic position, and they left everything, to start over at the bottom here, because they weren't willing to spout the communist propaganda, and wanted to live free.

Works for both love and national sovereignty.

But mention restoring the draft or community service..or anything that requires you to give of yourself for your country and the crying begins.
A very large percentage of the US population has no regard for our soveroiginity or loyalty to country.
Take a look what they're doing when the National Anthem is playing.

It is too bad, that you can't tell the difference between legal and illegal immigrants.

You also conveniently forget that YOUR ancestors came here as immigrants.

"Why is it people like her have to wait years and years when they are the embodiment of everything we consider American..."

Because this nation was settled by succeeding waves of immigrants who shared a common dream but different cultures. Someone who has to work for their citizenship KNOWS what it means, the don't just talk it.

I'm not fan of servitude. If my country asks, I comply.

Too bad today's Democrats are not anything like Kennedy, who said the famous: "Ask not what the country can do for you, ask what can you do for the country".

I think the leftist one-world public education system managed to eradicate any sense of patriotism in most who go through the system.

"Why is it those who were born here are sometimes the last to see how great we have it"

I don't understand liberals who hate our country, or people who don't participate in elections. They have no appreciation for the great gifts of freedom and opportunity they have been given here. And they certainly won't defend our nation, since they don't value it in the first place.

I have met people similar to the person you describe- legal immigrants who are more " Patriotic American" than 98% of the democrat party and "the clueless" taking up space in our country. I wish there was away to trade useless dead-weight citizens for people like the lady you described. We would be better off.

Well said. I've lived in several countries and visited several more(living in Korea now). Virtually every other country that I'm familiar with has much more national pride than we do. MUCH MORE.

I am a non-citizen. I am campaigning for Bush, even though I can't vote. These are my reasons: 1. I pay my taxes here, so I would like to make the most of them 2. In conscience, independently of the country, I have to fight for what is good for my son, myself and my community 3. Way before I could even imagine I would end up here, I already admired what american people have been able to make out of their country; now that I am here, I HATE seeing how there are free-riders or even people trying to do less of this country 4. As it is already known, USA affects the rest of the world; I think Bush is the best alternative; 5. In a more personal level, I agree with the President that morals should be the base of a healthy society.

Wasn't referring to you personally, but a large number of US citizens.
