Soldier returns home to surprise
brothers
October 29, 2004
Some local middle schoolers got the surprise of their life Friday when their brother secretly returned home from Iraq.
The boys could not believe their eyes and their feet couldn't carry them fast enough when they laid eyes on their big brother in the gym at West Middle School.
"Don't cry, Army Specialist William Poston of West told his little brothers. Don't cry, I'm home. I've got all my fingers and toes. I love ya'll."
Poston is part of the 25th Infantry Division based in Hawaii. He's been in Iraq since February and now he's home with a special message: The only thing I can say is make sure you say a prayer because everyone of you here is why we're over there."
And the faces of his little brothers Jordan, Jacob, and Jarrod are especially why Poston's over there
"Whoa, I can't even explain it, he says. I can't even tell you. They are everything."
He says he's making the world safer for his brothers and bringing some goodness to the lives of some Iraqi children.
"I like to see a lot of the kids like my brothers get school supplies, water, electricity."
But for now he's spending this Halloween weekend "dressed up as a civilian for a day."
And at an amusement park with his inspiration to keep fighting: I think we're going to Six Flags in the morning. I've already got your tickets, he tells the boys. Unless you don't want to go. Y'all want to go?"
And on Monday, he's coming to West Intermediate School to thank the kids that sponsored his unit. Specialist Poston heads back to Iraq on November 14th. He's expected to be there until January.
