If what passes for today's rock music didn't suck so bad, maybe this could have been avoided.

Believe me, they will ALL miss the death of American culture, whether they realize it or not.

The station lost a team called "Lamont and Tinelli" in a contract dispute, the pair moved over to 107.7 "the Bone"

they replaced them with "the Mikey show" a former DJ who sucks Big time.. and it went down hill ever since.

Yes --- when they find the Americans have moved out -- and their towns and cities have become exactly just like what they had back home --- but then they'll just have to pack up again and find where the Americans are living and move there.

KOME merged with KITS-Live 105 a few years ago and they retired the KOME call letters. The station was great during the 70s and early 80s. KOME was terrific in that they would play almost every song from an album, not just the hits. What jr. high male in the bay area didn't laugh every time he heard djs such as Dennis Erectus say, "Don't touch that dial. It's got KOME on it."

I'm in the mountains of N. Calif. and the only stations I can get decent reception on are hispanic, that and one sports station.

FITZ, did you see this FR poll? I missed it when it ran, but looks like we are not the minority that a few would like us to believe.

I remember listening to the last seconds of KMET, the mighty met, in LA in the 80's. It was replaced by cool jazz.

Fraser Smith, Paraquat and all the others.

I remember all of that from my misspent youth - a year spent in L.A. Champagne Thursdays, Finally Fridays and "Huaaaa" Mondays.

Auditorium testing is the death of rock radio. Period. When you are forced to hearing the same 5 Rush songs,5 Boston songs, and 7 Van Halen songs....over and over with no originality or surprise to the playlist...whatelse do you expect?

I'll give you some examples then --- that very popular song about Teresa Mendoza -- "una mujer muy valiente", "Teresa la Mexicana" --- a fictional woman drug smuggler praised in this very popular song for her valor and bravery -- dealing drugs in the USA and all over Europe. Jefe de los Jefes --- Boss of the Bosses --- but in this song it's about the top drug kingpin --- very proud of the power he wields over the government and everyone else. Paca de a Kilo --- all about drug smuggling --- "Los Pinos me dan sombra" --- the Mexican White House provides me cover. The most popular music from Mexico are the narco-corridas which promote the drug trafficking business --- make them into heros. El Rey de los Cielos is about the famous Amado Carrillo Fuentes ---former leader of the very violent Juarez Cartel.

I missed it too --- even in this 80% hispanic region people don't want unlimited immigration from Mexico -- and they would not like to give full Social Security benefits to those who worked here for a very short time illegally ---- the only ones who would be for that would of course be the illegals for whom it would be like winning the lottery.

So basically it's gangsta rap for a different culture?

Depending on the type of music --- the narco-corridas are the polka-type music, they also have gansta rap of their own. The narco-groups are the most popular but the pop (bubble gum) music and older music is not about drugs.

I have been saying the same thing for a long time. They learned very quickly how to milk the system for everything possible. The women are on welfare while the men who live with them buy new trucks and send money home to build their casa. And many in construction are working under the table.

As a CA resident we will eventually have to speak spanish or leave. Even my KSFO for awhile was being affected by a Spanish station in Mexico that was illegally using there radio freq.
Sad to say but true San Jose/Bay Area is filled with stations like this.
Tv I pay 90.00 in Cabel and get 12 spanish stations however I have been begging for German TV and they want no part of it. Today I noticed one of my stations was taken off and a Middle Eastern station was put on yet I have to pay for it. Many stations I dont watch but still am paying yet I will pay for GermanTV and I am told no
Where is the fairness

That's the only way they can accept those jobs with low wages with no benefits that Americans would rather pass up for a better deal. Of course that woman you see with the 8 kids and another on the way is going to pull out food stamps and use Medicaid and government housing --- the man she's with can't afford all that beer, cigarettes, and lottery tickets AND support her and the kids on $6 an hour with no benefits. You see this all the time in the grocery stores here.

I meant "gangsta rap" in terms of lyrics glorifying lawbreaking, not gangsta rap in terms of the musical style.

Maybe it's "gangsta polka"!

Have you looked into "Free to Air" satellite TV systems? I do believe there is german programming that you can pick up with those, and there is no monthly charge for it either.
