State Department Tried to Stop Airing of Bin Laden Tape
WASHINGTON (AP) - The State Department on Friday urged the government of Qatar, which finances Al-Jazeera, not to broadcast a videotaped speech by Osama bin Laden, a senior State Department official said. The official, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the State Department spoke to officials in Qatar before Al-Jazeera showed a portion of the tape. In it, the al-Qaida leader said the United States can avoid another attack if it stops threatening the security of Muslims.
The request to the Persian Gulf government, which is considered an ally in the U.S. campaign to counter terror, was passed through the U.S. embassy in Doha, Qatar's capital.
Secretary of State Colin Powell and other Bush administration officials have appeared in Al-Jazeera interviews, although the State Department has occasionally denounced the network as biased against the United States. The reason for going on these programs is to convey the U.S. message to the Arab world, the official said.

this particular quote sounds more like bin laden is trying to make piece with us than it is a threat. i believe that the noose is tightening around al-qaida.
And the media missed it....as usually.
The State Department has NOT been a friend to President Bush throughout his presidency. I find nothing unusual about this. They are Clinton holdovers practicing politics as usual at the expense of our security.
Can someone photoshop the yellow bracelet that Jf'n "flip-flop fop fake" Kerry wears onto this pic of Ass-amma....thanks
I would be willing to accept a ben laden piece. His head on a pike preferably.
Make a lovely decoration for my garden.
You know I think you are right and it's scaring the hell out of me.
I posted an article earlier about our intelligence telling Qatar there is likely to be an attack in the next couple of days. Doesn't anyone remember the scenario leading up to Sept 11th, the guy in Afghanistan being killed (by guys posing as newsmen (irony)), Karzi (sp?) and Allawi (sp/) better watch their backs as well as our guys here.
i agree with that - it may well be that this tape, was the best they could do.
Sounds more like he is telling us what our media has told the world that we want to hear.
I don't remember that but certainly understand why you would not want to post this article. I suspect the State Department is hoping for a Kerry win!
Nah. The UBL tape reminds people that Dubya hasn't managed to capture/kill him.
Not good for W in the final days of the campaign, IMHO. Gives Kerry too much to run with in terms of material - esp. on the ONE issue that W is strongest on (terrorism).
But of course. There's a lot of liberals in the State Dept. that don't want Bush re-elected. They want the M. Moore view to prevail ("There is no terrorist threat.").
sorry. I read it wrong.
Are children and women his next targets?
.
I remember. Yesterday I was at the dentist's office and the crawl on the screen mentioned someone having been assassinated and I recalled the assassination you speak of that triggered things the lst time.
This warning should be posted as an article, we need to get people's attention on this. Can we? Would it be permissable?

"I tell you this with this information from our sources at the DoJ, according to US officials, US intelligence analysts are concerned that the tapes from UBL and the one about which we just spoke {Adam Gahdahn (yahyah)} might be a signal for an impending attack... Quoting here: "Analysts have for months believe that the emergence of a Bin Laden message would signal an impending attack" that from the official ... another quote here "there is a seriousness and an urgency with the emergence of this Bin Laden tape that surpasses anything we've seen before." Again - that from a US official quoted to our sources at the DoJ. The official said analysts are linking the 2 tapes and examining the tone and symbolism of the 2 tapes. They believe that the 1st tape from someone who appears to be an American, and may be this Adam Gahdahn, symbolizes brute force and al Qaeda's presence in the US. .. the offical said that the message of that tape is "We are Here"... the tone of the Bin Laden tape shows an attempt to justify the killing of innocents the official said... much more on this from our sources at the DoJ...
cut to Arnold introducing Bush
(I posted it here just so people reading this thread could see it, let me know what you think about posting it as an article or even a (vanity).
