WASHINGTON The Arab television station Al-Jazeera is broadcasting a new tape from Al Qaeda (search) leader Usama bin Laden (search). Multiple sources told FOX News that the 18-minute videotape is authentic and said its release was timed to coincide with Tuesday's presidential elections. Bin Laden makes reference to recent conflicts in Iraq and addresses the American people directly, sources said. U.S. officials said the tape appears to have been made recently. Bin Laden is speaking from a lectern and he talks about threats to the United States and he says that President Bush will not protect the American people Al-Jazeera said the tape deals with the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks on the United States and their consequences. While the announcer said the message was an audiotape, the station's Web site called it a video. The Qatari-based channel did not say how it had received the tape nor how it had concluded that it was authentic. The channel has previously received audio- and videotapes from people linked to Al Qaeda. FOX News' Bret Baier, Ian McCaleb, Anna Persky and The Associated Press contributed to this report.

Al-Jazeera Airs Videotape by Bin Laden
Oct 29, 4:16 PM (ET)
CAIRO, Egypt (AP) - The Arab television station Al-Jazeera aired a video of Osama bin Laden on Friday directly admitting for the first time that he carried out the Sept. 11 attacks and promising to outline "the best way to avoid another Manhattan."
It was the first footage of the al-Qaida leader to surface in more than a year. The video showed bin Laden in traditional white robes, a turban and a cloak reading from papers and standing in front of a plain, brown cloth background.
"We decided to destroy towers in America," bin Laden said.
He said the attack was carried out because "we are a free people ... and we want to regain the freedom of our nation."
He also accused President Bush of "misleading" the American people three years since the 2001 suicide airline hijackings that hit the World Trade Center towers and the Pentagon.
Let's wait to see if it's really recent; Newpaper headlines, if he mentions very recent events, if it's his voice, etc.
Can someone please clarify if this is a "still picture with audio" or an actual video with his lips moving and so on?
Voting for Kerry (as he wants) is a vote for Bin Laden.
Surely Americans aren't that stupid.
Gee, maybe he isn't dead after all.

DUBAI (Reuters) - Osama bin Laden accused President Bush of deceiving the American people and said the Sept. 11 attacks would not have been so severe if the president had been alert.
In an address on Al Jazeera television just days ahead of the U.S. presidential election, bin Laden also said the U.S. administration resembled "corrupt" Arab governments.
"It never occurred to us that the commander in chief of the country (Bush) would leave 50,000 citizens in the two towers to face those horrors alone ... because he thought listening to a child discussing her goats was more important," bin Laden said, referring to Bush's visit to a school when the attack occurred.
Al Qaeda leader bin Laden said he had first thought of attacking the United States after the 1982 Israeli invasion of Lebanon. U.S. intelligence agencies believe that it appeared to be bin Laden on the tape, one official said.
Bin Laden appeared to be sitting or standing at a table against a neutral brown background. He wore a round, white head covering and white tunic under a light brown cloak.
Reading from a sheet of paper, his voice was strong and he appeared in fair health, his full beard a mixture of white and dark gray. At times he gestured at the camera with his right index finger to emphasize points.
Highly skeptical here -- I'll see it before I'll believe it.
Not to worry, Kerry will defend and protect the US.
You are right---much caution needed before forming an opinion.
Yet another Kerry campaign ad. So, who all will he owe if elected?
Rhetorical question: will Michael Moore be embarrassed that bin Laden is taking a page out of his book?
Welcome to FR.
Well, Osama has come out with his October surprise. Kerry and the media have come out with their October surprise with the explosives lost. WHERE THE HELL IS BUSH'S OCTOBER SURPRISE? WHAT ARE WE WAITING FOR?
Anybody else hear Cavuto say Bin Laden makes reference to Bush reading "My Pet Goat" to school children instead of protecting America.
Well, we know where he gets his material from!
Someone on FNS made an excellent comment: Kerry will now have to make it appear that he does not agree with bin Laden. Good freaking luck, since the whole videotape appears to have taken their script from a Kerry campaign rally.
who do you think he got his copy from
